'Social Media Ambassadors'

Ohhhh. Yeah. Or like…if I worked for Dover or something and got an employee discount, what does that mean for my ammy status?
Any employee discount on products has no impact on ammy status. The manufacturer isn’t giving you the discount to promote their products, Dover (or other retailer is.) Dover displays pics of its employees riding in each catalog to remind the customer that its employees are riders, just like them. Pics are submitted by employees and are not chosen based on apparel worn or brands shown.

In general yes, but I can see Single Oxer’s point that there might be gray areas. Products that aren’t particularly horsey (but maybe the ambassador was chosen for their horsey “in”) or maybe someone who has a social media and promotion presence outside of riding (like someone who is primarily a fashion/style blogger with many followers and also an amateur rider).

Peer trendsetters are worth a lot to brands and most are pretty invested in fashion and spend a lot of time and money on it. I don’t see the ewww factor. It’s like giving free CDs to a music reviewer or free tickets to a super fan.

It’s not like we all still ride in green coats and rust britches, is it?
Yes, but the fan isn’t being a fan on their own time, privately. Rather they are blowing up my social media with their Tupperware party. As someone previously pointed out, they are monetizing their fandom and our friendship.

"Peer trendsetters, indeed. I guess we cease to be peers if I become someone they “like” for financial gain.

That’d be fine. If Paris Hilton wanted to carry Tupperware in her Birkin bag and then branch out into telling me which curry comb to buy, I suppose someone would read that and care… based on her choices in big, expensive purses and what to put in them.
