SoloShot - Anyone thinking of getting this?
Are you comfortable leaving it set up at a show?
I used my SS2 at a show - just posted a response on a different thread. We have a main SS thread that I link to in the show-related post below:

Soloshot reviews are really bad, a lot saying it doesn’t work well under 100 feet. That customer service was terrible.

Jus FYI as I’m trying to decide between the soloshot an pixio also

For the 2 or 3?

I’ve put my 2 in the corner of an arena and ride past it. It keeps up.
I usually set mine up at home about a max of 10m from the arena edge.
I thought the customer service was brilliant. I had some issues with the first one and bits and pieces and communicated by email (I’m in Australia) and they’ve always been helpful.
Mind you, I don’t expect much from any customer service, so I might be easily impressed
Not sure who is giving the bad reviews and why.

I’ve had no issues with their customer service. I had to send one of the parts back for a warranty repair and they were very good about. I think it’s an awesome device. No idea who is giving them bad reviews.

Glad to hear this as I’m waiting excitedly for my Soloshot3 to arrive later this summer.

I’m pretty sure I was the first COTHer to get and recommend Soloshot. My experience with my 2 is that it works exactly as advertised, is not difficult to set up and the customer service has been nothing short of outstanding.

I’m surprised by this ^, as well. My SS2 works great at all distances, including <100 ft. I do make sure to have it set at least ~15ft away, which is clearly in their instructions. Usually, I just have it a few feet beyond the arena I’m in, or at a corner & I just cut that side of the arena short to make sure I don’t get <15 ft from the camera. I only had trouble 1 time and that was when schooling XC under the trees - I passed my camera with only about 5 ft of space (and under the trees) and I think the GPS had trouble figuring out which was the camera and which was me underneath all the leaves. GPS technology isn’t accurate under about 20’, so it’s understandable (ever been driving and your Google Maps things you are on the frontage road instead of the highway?!?). It caught some of my ride after that but I wasn’t centered and sometimes the camera would search the sky.

I have had AMAZING customer service with SS - they are quick to respond by email, always very friendly, and happy to share info. I’ve never tried calling by phone as I’ve never had a reason to speak with someone in person, since they have replied by email w/in 24hrs every time. I haven’t had any equipment issues - my CS questions were always about SS3 ordering/delivery, software updates to my SS2, etc.

I’m anxiously awaiting my SS3
I’ve been using my video camera on a post for the last year and miss about 2/3s of my rides, so I’m excited to really see what the heck is going on!

Yep, you’ll never go back to the camera on the post after using a soloshot!!

Flight. I’ve got a used soloshot2., flight or anybody else feel like helping me with it. It didn’t come with instructions other than the set-up cheat sheet.

Currently I’m trying to figure out how to charge the darn thing.

Sure pm me with what you want to know

Assuming you have the charging cable, it will plug into the base in the port that is under the little rubber flap with a lightening bolt on it. The other end is a standard usb connector that you need to plug into a wall charger. I use the one that came with my camera. You charge the tag by having it attached to the base while you charge the base. You do not need to charge the camera controller.

Also full user manuals are available on the website.

Good luck.

Anyone know if the camera will automatically zoom in? I can imagine seeing mini me riding around and watching with a magnifying glass!

I’m also waiting anxiously for my pre-ordered Soloshot3. I haven’t used one before, but the 3 sounds like it will be easy to use for non-techies like myself.

Yes, that’s one of the big selling features. I can only speak to the 2, and it has 3 settings. At the narrowest, I believe the window is something like 20 feet.

has anyone who pre-ordered a SS3 received there’s yet? I have one on pre order but now it says delivery in march 2017!

just wondering how the new SS3 is working for you.

thanks!

anyone get their SoloShot 3 yet?

I’m just fed up with Soloshot. One year behind the schedule, and they explain (in their visitors posts on Facebook) that the indoor feature does not work !!!
“We have some R&D videos for indoor tracking right now, but that’s one of the things that our engineers are still optimizing on the firmware end. As soon as we get the code cleaned up, we’ll be sure to post better quality footage”
They are doing R&D and not production! Their indoor accessory is a scam.
I ask the full refund and I order a PIXIO, they ship immediately. End of the story.

No one has theirs yet; the product will not ship until late March. Or that’s the current projection - fingers crossed!

I really need it now, so even though I pre-ordered, I am thinking of just going out and buying a new Sony video camera and paying someone to video tape, or ordering a pixio. Even if I set up a camera in a corner of the arena and just caught random snippets of my ride, I’d be better off than with the SS3 pre-order… I can get a new Sony camcorder at Walmart for $189…
