SoloShot - Anyone thinking of getting this?

Tried to use the Pixio system today but one of the (fully charged) beacons would not turn on so it was a bust. Plan to charge it again tonight and see what happens.

ETA: well, next day all the beacons fired up but the device doesn’t track. I guess it’s going back to France.

Yikes! Thanks for update on Pixio, visorvet. What a pain to not have it working right from the start. Curious to hear what transpires with any fixes/returning you have to do.

C’est la vie!

I contacted Soloshot directly and was told that they will not be shipping the indoor accessory because some of the critical parts are out of stock and will be for quite some time. They did find an alternate source but that will add another delay to that particular aspect of the system. I didn’t get an answer as to what the status is, i.e. is it in a ready to go state upon receipt of the critical parts? Or are there things that are being developed still.

I bought a barely used Soloshot2 today! Won’t be able to use it until the Spring, but it’s still exciting.
I bought it from a very reputable coach in the area who used it a few times but “Isn’t a techy” so wasn’t interested in setting it up to use it.
My question is: If this hasn’t been updated, do I just use the newest update that’s on the site and does that include all of the updates since the beginning?

Thanks, NJR

Yes, each software update is a complete new version with all previous improvements included. You do not need to install all previous updates.

Just check out the website for directions on the update process. Make sure to use the correct USB version as an older one is likely to lock up your device which you will then have to send back to them to be completely reset. Ask me how I know this…

Feel free to send me a PM if you would like a copy of my handy dandy cheat sheet that I use.

I also got a Pixio to see how it compared to the Soloshot2, which is a pain to setup and tends to wander off tracking-wise…

The Pixio is, first of all, very low grade Chinese construction which would shatter in a million pieces if I looked at it hard. I could literally kill someone if I hit them in the head with the (made in USA) Soloshot. Took me a while to get it ready to go because the plug into the adapter was misaligned from the factory, fun stuff like that. Quality control not apparent.

Pixio is WAYYY easier to setup than Soloshot. Which would be awesome if it worked.

However, it doesn’t track (follows me fine until I pick up a trot and then it is just all over the place for some reason). when I try to update it so all the components “match” hoping that will fix it, it won’t read the update file off either of the 2 brand new, freshly FAT32 formatted 32GB MicroSD cards I bought for it. Waiting to hear back from customer service, but if they can’t straighten it out it is going back to France.

Hang in there with the Pixio

VisorvetV- I waited almost a year to get my Pixio because they had production problems. Got it last July, of course, while I was on vacation.
Like you I had problems initially. Couldn’t get it to track but finally got my husband to come out to arena and help with the set up. I found that the directions as to doing this with this beep, or in this amount of time were not good. Once I figured that out and carefully did the set up, it worked just fine.

I was very lucky in that I already owned one of the cameras that does the automatic telephoto adjustments which is great. About 3 years ago I bought the original SoloShot only to find out it wouldn’t work indoors and had to send it back. So I was excited when I read about the Pixio.
