Soloshot3. Soloshot "Fully expects" shipping before end of MARCH 2017

PS. My feeling is that they hired overseas cheap-o companies to produce this and got super-poor quality.

I bought a soloshot 2 and when I was ready to use it, the soloshot 3 came out in pre-order. So I ordered the soloshot 3. The soloshot 2 has been in my office, unused.
Now I’m thinking I should cancel my preorder and keep the soloshot 2. At least I know that it works. in theory, that it is, as I haven’t used it.

The person who called me said that is what happened. They had designed and manufactured the first two themselves but hired an outside company to do the 3 and ran into lots of problems.

If you need the camera right away, why not try the Move 'n See by Pixio? You could probably get your money back from Soloshot and use it on this one.

I saw a used Soloshot2 for sale recently (this week) in an equestrian tack for sale page.

I’m waiting until the Soloshot3’s start to ship and plan on buying one. It has all the bells and whistles I’m looking for. Stinks to have to wait so long for it, but as someone who has done the crowd-funded pre-order thing several times, unfortunately you’re stuck sitting on your hands until they (eventually!) land in your mailbox.

I think it will be worth its wait in gold once it arrives!

I ordered and then immediately un- ordered the solo shot 3 over the summer. Sounded to me like they had no idea when they were going to be shipping so I very quickly asked them to refund my money. Like the very next day. I had to twist their arm a bit but yes they refunded the money. I thought then I was making the right decision and I still think I made the right decision. I bought a used soloshot2 from another cother. The thing is a bit of a nuisance but I can get to work about half the time.

Why aren’t you just asking for refunds? I would never have let a company have my money this long with no prospect of ever getting the item. Get a refund and when if ever they actually have the merchandise and start shipping then place an order.

This whole ordeal is the reason why I never pulled the trigger on the pre-order. There’s a lot more than simply Beta testing going on behind this whole thing. I kept tabs on this and pre-orders were supposed to first ship in March, then May, then July. It’s now November and they’re still offering the pre-order discount! This is just bad business all the way around to take people’s money with a basically open-ended date on delivery?? That’s just nuts. I would be FURIOUS right now if I had pre-ordered last year and was still waiting on my product. Meanwhile, Pixio is making them look ridiculous because they clearly state, “Order today, it ships tomorrow!”

It might come to asking for a refund. However, no sense in asking for a refund to turn around and buy it when it comes out. My pre-order price was 50% off retail (supposedly). So to get refund and then order at full price wouldn’t help financially at all. But to get refund and order a similar product for a different company…maybe. Depends on pricing.

Just received an email in response to asking for ship date for my order number. Same song and dance, excuses, then this:

While we are about 85% of the way there, first of it’s kind products like SOLOSHOT3 don’t have a set blueprint or roadmap to follow. Unlike SOLOSHOT3, technology like cell phones, PCs, and drones have all been done before. Our previous generations had a few similarities, but our technology has been vastly improved and upgraded.

The biggest hurdle has been calibrating the movement focus and zoom on the OpticX cameras, especially for rapid movement. There are thousands of zoom steps and we are aiming for an infinity focus at each zoom step. It has been quite a tedious process to get everything working in conjunction.

The second issue has been overheating in our circuitry with all of the hardware and software we are running simultaneously. After much testing, we had to change the Base’s processing power to 4 cores running at 1.2 GHZ, as well as upgrade the RAM to 2 GB and the on-board memory for apps to 16 GB. This has helped us reduce the overall CPU usage, which has greatly reduced chances for overheating.

With that being said, our team fully expects all SOLOSHOT3 pre-orders to be shipped out before the end of March since our additional production lines will be completed and in full swing. I can’t say definitively when we will start to ship, but I do know that your pre-order is towards the beginning of our shipping phase.

He then went on to say that my order number is estimated to ship February 2017, although he can’t say exactly when it will ship.

Production is not even in full swing yet, due to all of these technical problems?

March 2017? Yeah, sure it’ll ship then. I’d guess more like December 2017 at the rate that company is going.

Sorry to hear about the delays with shipping the Soloshot 3. I’m still using my Soloshot 2 and it works so well that I didn’t consider the 3.

Unfortunately, this model of offering a deal to those who pre-order is pretty much a gamble on any product.

I hope those who wait it out are pleased with the product when it arrives. If you don’t want to wait, then I’m with the folks who suggested contacting SoloShot and cancelling the order.

I sent the folks at Soloshot a similar email yesterday and got a response very similar to what ColorOfLight received.

How disappointing. I can see a delay of a few months, but over a year?? As I think someone said earlier, this looks like an interest free loan that masqueraded as a pre-order.

My thought is that it is piss poor business to be selling something that obviously is in alpha testing!!

Probably. Or they finally get their act together, ship, then go under, the Soloshot3 doesn’t work and there is no tech support.

You’re so lucky! Pre-order was presented as an early bird discount, not “we haven’t even finished R&D, and it’s still in the beta testing stage over a year later” discount.

I hope that Soloshot doesn’t go under before they deliver, and that the darn thing actually works as they claim it will. I am starting to seriously lose patience and am seriously considering cancelling and getting my money back.

At least they are consistent in what they are telling people, right? That was me who said they just wanted an interest free loan. :frowning:

Velvet, you said it!! If the product has not made it through R&D, it should not be marketed yet, let alone ask for “pre-orders” to fund the creation of the product and the process of working all the kinks out.

I second the question of why on earth don’t you cancel the order and get a refund instead of complaining? Clearly this company has violated it’s contract with you with this delay, and doesn’t sound as if it is getting things together anytime soon. I can pretty well guarantee that someone else somewhere fairly soon will come up with a similar camera, and maybe for less!

What is wrong with letting other riders know what is going on with Soloshot? This is an idea video recording device for riders, isn’t it? Every competetive or training rider could use one. I, like thousands of other people, want/need their product, and kept believing they’d come through. For the most part I forgot about it over the summer. Up until the latest ship info, when you’ve come this far and think it’s about to ship any day, would it REALLY make sense to bail, and find it ships tomorrow? No, probably not, right? BTW, I paid $565. Current pre-order is $836. It’s expected to retail at $900. Hopefully that price difference helps you to understand why I, as well as other early pre-orderers, have held on so long and have been reluctant to cancel our orders?
