So… anyone know what the big horse abuse scandal at the Reichert was all about? NSBA has posted a statement, and I would imagine that for them to have to go public about something, it was a pretty big deal… I don’t have anything to do with it, just wondering what could have happened that would have caused a press release.
I found it after some sleuthing. This is a first person account posted on another forum by the person who actually saw the horse and helped the owners, so I believe it is accurate and fair to re-post. I am deleting names per the policy of COTH, until the charges that have been filed by the horse owners and the NSBA steward are made public.
“I agree that this forum is a powerful tool for getting the facts out -and I believe it is very important for people to know the truth. XXX was stalled next to me, so I know exactly what happened. XXX did not show up for her gate call, and the owners of the horse went back to the stalls to find out why. She was totally packed up and leaving. According to the owners, she told them the officials would not let her show because the horse was lame. The fact is, she never got within ten feet of any officials - if she had, I’m sure they would have noticed the suspicious patches on the horse’s flanks. As I was leaving the stalls to go find my seat for the class, XXX had the horse unsaddled, and was getting ready to sneak out. When the owners realized their horse wasn’t in the arena, they returned to the stalls, a confrontation occurred, and they took possession of their horse. We gave them some hay and water for the horse, who looked absolutely miserable. The next morning, after rinsing off the adhesive and hair XXX had painstakenly glued on the horse to cover up the evidence of her abuse, they went to the officials, and then took the horse to the vet trailer to have the abuse documented and treated.
I sincerely hope criminal charges are brought against XXX and that she is never allowed to mistreat an animal again. No animal deserves to suffer like that poor horse has suffered. The owners, who do not live in this country, were unaware of the extent of the abuse and took action as soon as they realized what was going on. They seemed to be very nice people who were visibly shaken up by what they saw.
There is no need to speculate - XXX abused that horse, and because of the actions of the owners, she will be held responsible for what she did, and that horse will hopefully be able to recover and live and happy life. I hope this is not deleted.”
I just found the forum in question. It sickens me to discover that so many of the horses that I loved to watch came through her hands. ugh
How can we do these things to these horses, and they STILL try their hearts out for us. sigh
I think I need to go hug my foal now. :-/ She’s pretty sure that the downpour she got caught in this afternoon causing her to be WET (which she hates) constitutes abuse. May she never find out differently…

Let me get this straight…she had GLUED hair onto the raw skin she had caused by abusing the horse?
And thought she could show the horse?
Then was trying to skulk off the grounds ?
What is wrong with people?
I have probably said this before, in relation to politics, but here tis again.
I believe many of the problems we see in the world today are rooted in arrogance and greed. Applies here also.
Isn’t this the same person?

(That is from 2008)
“I was disappointed in the fact of, well, I guess the picture of the spray can bothered me a little bit because it makes me look unprofessional. It’s not good because that wasn’t the situation. The fact is, the leg was not sprayed to cover anything up.”
Yes, it’s the same person. I’ve been reading on the Pleasure Horse Journal’s forum about the mess at the Reichert. This lady is a menace. Why nothing’s been done before is the real question, I guess.
So what did she allegedly do to the horse?
it’s in the second post of the thread.
All it says is she abused him… (And covered up the marks in a very disturbing way!) What did she actually do to him?

Sounds like she tried to cover up excessive spur use.
It appears she has just been arrested in relation to this…
The most informed information that is emerging is that the horse had frisbee sized raw spots on his flank areas, with up to 2" deep spur holes in the center. This was all covered in adhesive and applied hair. Best info is that the horse is still with a vet and will be for awhile.
This is reputable, but not officially verified information.
That kind of training is SOP with the 4-H quahtah hoss w/p trainers in my area. Which is why I loathe the stupid f*ckheads.
