A couple of years ago, I was in the UK and caught a local dressage show on grass. One child was having a really lovely test with a medium piebald pony – that is until the pony suddenly put on the brakes while trotting across the diagonal, threw his head down and grabbed three quick mouthfuls of grass (pulling the rider forward so hard he came out of the saddle), then threw his head back up and went back to his trot while his rider tried to sort himself out. I’m not sure who was having the hardest time not to laugh out loud, the judges or the audience, as clearly laughter would have hurt the feelings of the young rider. But I also remember the pony’s name: Cheeky Charley. I later learned the pony’s name came because he “once took a nip out o’ me mum’s bum.”
Videographer fell off the stool in the middle of my test; you basically hear “oh sh*t” and then the video goes down and comes back up a few seconds later. He is ok; my mare was a little suspicious of him after that but fortunately it was toward the end of our test so no major point deductions for coming above the bit
. (Facility was on a body of water, so we figured if the fire got too close, we’d just go for a swim.)
I think we may have had students at this show… In Florida? We had some UPSET parents when the trainer didn’t choose to leave.
