Curb bits also work great for curtain hangers.
I have my curtains tied back with strips of burlap.
My cabnet hardware look like western saddle concho’s.
All my rooms downstairs but the bathroom are painted a neutral beige.
I have decorated the rooms with pictures that I have taken.
My Mom got a hold of some old barnboard she didn’t do anything with it but wash it then polyurathaned it. She took shelf hangers and put the shelf hangers about a foot 1/2 from the top of the ceiling all the way around the room and put the barnboard on the hangers. She has all her old antique
stuff on the shelfes all the way around the room.
She also took a chicken nesting brooder hutch had my hubby sand blast it
then she polyurathaned it and had my dad hang it on the wall. She has a bunch more antiques in the little brooder cubby holes.
another great curtain rod hanger are english or western stirrups you can also use curb straps shortened as tie backs.
thanks you all
Old thread was bumped up.
@equusvilla I have definitely broke Mom’s Rule in my LR
Pics require to much “dancing” on my part: take pic on phone, email to self, save to folder, attach to this post… :dead:
Maybe later :uhoh:
In the room I have several framed photos of my horses past & present, a large pastel portrait of my Hunter, his framed Reserve emblem, cut from that year’s prize antisweat, pencil drawing done by a friend of DH’s horse.
Decor includes DH’s saddle sitting on top an old DR chair, his dress boots at the foot, a couple coffee table-type horse books on the seat.
Coffee table holds framed pics of DH with our horses at the time (all now gone ), pic of me & mini from Ntl Drive & a couple other non-horsy photos.
Other horsecentric items were gifts from friends that passed the ButtUgly Test: Indian leather horse model, brass horse-with-clock (not in its stomach :p) card with print that looks like my Hackney.
BR has a couple pics of my horses - small 4X6 framed sitting in the old cabinet that acts as my Media Center - & 2 framed hunt scene prints above the bed.
I am not counting the old A/P saddle I have sitting on a DR chair waiting for a tack sale to happen.
Or my dressage saddle - seated on a spare kitchen chair - brought in from my barn when I discovered mice had nibbled my mini’s leather harness.
 Editing post to add pics caused it to be flagged as SPAM
Hopefully it will pass & appear
In the meantime…
2 more pics, including BR & horsey quilt made by a friend
Not weird - I’m the same! I discourage horse art as gifts from people because so much of it is poorly done and I couldn’t bear to look at it.

When restoring our old barn, we took a large door off, literally just brushed the spider webs off and hung it on our wall in the kitchen. And in my bathroom, there’s a small shelf that we cut from the top rail of the dairy section of the barn, in front of the milking stations. I love how it’s all wavy and worn from a century of dairy cows chewing and rubbing their necks on it. All the stuff on that shelf (with the exception of the little figurine) was found around the farm. I’m pretty sure the gear is from a manure spreader, so that makes me laugh to put that in the bathroom. The cut nails are from the late 1880s. Found a neat driving bit buried in the old hay too-- it’s exactly this kind (anyone know what it’s called?): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Old-Iron-Metal-Driving-Horse-Bit-Rare-Guide-Equestrian-Equipment-/153480483956

Love this thread and so timely as I begin to think about decorating my new tack room (just being built now). I say the best things are PERSONAL. From your past or travels - anything with deep meaning. And then fun stuff! Planning to go back and read everybody’s ideas and suggestions later (I’m in a hurry).
Today is especially surreal for me as the dream of building a barn has been with me since age 10 or so and that it is happening doesn’t feel real. It’s like, “Did I really pull this off???” And getting out all the things I’ve accumulated for this moment is…CRAZY!
I did a horse theme in my bathroom. An antique stirrup to hold guest towels, a framed hunter print on the wall, a spur TP holder, another antique bit as a hand towel rack and horse head towel racks, a rope and spurs on one wall above the commode, my old hunt whip in a corner of the window.
Pinterest has so many awesome decor ideas. I think I have saved hundreds of them. Now I just need to start decorating. Bluey and eightpondfarm, I LOVE your photos.
Pinterest is a treasure trove - I have a board for Equine Home that has some gorgeous inspiration pieces.
The dining room in my ye olde house is hunt-themed. My furniture is antique. Over the sideboard 3 matching medium-sized hunt prints. Over the fireplace a large hunt print flanked by a pair of (glued together so they don’t fall apart) wooden boot trees and a clock. Over the print are 2 antique hunting whips that cross with the lashes falling down either side of the print and pooling on the mantle. Various other medium and smaller hunt prints on other walls. Plain (painted) dark red walls and tan trim.
