Well, I did try untying my long Western reins, but I found the ends distracting if you want to ride two handed. I have a pair of extra long English reins, with hook attachments and a buckle, and I’m going to try that on the mechanical hackamore. Long enough to graze or drink, closed so they can’t be dropped, but lightweight buckle that will snap if horse gets caught up.
I was looking at my friend riding in rope halter and closed loop paracord reins and thinking that had no break points except the clips to the reins.
