Sports bras for hard to fit size

I met the BO a couple of decades ago when there weren’t that many sports bras. She explained her ratings based on years of observation. She said she is a 2, which means she needs two bras when she rides. There are plenty of 3s, and a few qualify for a 4. I think some of them have a problem because they can’t sit a trot well enough to ride a horse with some bounce.

I guess I’m lucky with my B-cups and a horse with a nice western jog.

Interesting. I am similar in that I feel fortunate to have a small chest that doesn’t hinder my riding. Not sure where DD got hers from…

Thank you to everyone who commented. I’ve ordered a few of the suggestions and even some in multiple sizes to hopefully get the best fit!

I’m a huge fan of Shock Absorber sports bras. They are a UK brand, goes down to a 30 band size and doesn’t have underwire! I’m a 28E and wear their 30D.

I see they have quite a few options - is there a specific style you recommend? Even with a larger bust DD prefers the more seamless styles over the heavy duty strappy ones but would be willing to give them a try if it means less back ache and more support. Thank you!

This is the one I keep repurchasing. It’s not pretty but it’s very functional and I can wear under normal clothing without a uni boob

I will add this to the list! Thanks!

I would just add that if you find one you/she likes, definitely give it a good “jump test” and also watch on video (if possible) before buying duplicates.

A lot of the stretchier sports bras minimize impact by supporting while also having a substantial amount of “give” to accommodate breast tissue. But you often see people running in these kind of bras and there is a lot of movement happening, even if it is comfortable for the wearer. A more rigid bra will minimize this if fit well, but some women don’t like the more constricting feel and/or they may have rubs from rigid straps.

For something like riding - you might still prefer the look to the overall comfort for things like shows. I use the same example for people who are showing their dogs - even if their bras feel comfortable, a bouncing bosom takes the judges eye away from the dog.

When you’re wearing the bra it’s hard to know what it looks like, so it’s worth having a very honest shopping buddy, good mirror or video.

A Boobuddy (on Amazon in the USA_ solved that problem for me 100%. It’s a strap that goes over your bra and fixes the bouncing up and out problem completely. A lot of women I know wear them to run now as they do not chafe and you can wear a more comfortable sports bra that allows you to breathe in combination. There are some knock offs, and many are too stretchy to work, I recommend the Boobuddy or similar type material, not the ones that are all elastic.

So, when you head out to look at that new horse, you should take a level-headed friend who looks before you leap. Do you need a second person to check the boobs? Or can one person fill both roles?

LOL a good friend does both. “That horse is a great mover, but have to tell you…you gotta get a new bra.”
