This. And bad horsemanship also needs to be called out even when the results aren’t so egregious. It’s sobering to think that even though the horse was clearly not fit to compete, if he’d left up just a few more jumps, we might not be having this discussion. Until people’s horsemanship is put under scrutiny, even if they’re technically “still winning,” nothing is going to change. Otherwise it’s an unending circle of “you can’t question X until you ride at this level,” and “to ride at this level you need to do X.”

Horsemanship goes out the window when large amounts of money are involved. You see it across all breeds and all types of competitions.

Did anybody else see the IG post by Eye Candy that Andy fell off a horse that then galloped over him?

“Andy took this week off because he fell off a horse. After he fell, the horse galloped over him, taking a divot of flesh out of his back and crushing his elbow and forearm so now he looks like Popeye on one side! So it was with some surprise that I found him in a stall on Eloise (2017 Emerald x For Pleasure)! This is the first time this filly has had a human on her! Wtf! Why?? Put Mike up there!!”

After he fell, the horse galloped over him, taking a divot of flesh out of his back and crushing his elbow and forearm so now he looks like Popeye on one side! So it was with some surprise that I found him in a stall on Eloise (2017 Emerald x For Pleasure)! This is the first time this filly has had a human on her! Wtf! Why?? Put Mike up there!!”

Why is the filly so sweaty?

The midwest was under an enormous heat wave last week. Most of our horses were sweating in their stalls even with fans on them.

I think it’s important to take things as a whole. A bad decision here or there is human. A pattern of bad decisions is bad horsemanship and deserves attention.

Too bad she didn’t crush his hands so he could never pull on a horses face EVER again!
