Stallion Recommendations for Cavalier Royale mare

We have just gotten a one year breeding lease on a Cavalier Royale mare Tickle Me Too. Her Dam is ISH so we are guessing the dam line is Irish Draught, trying to find that out.

In our ideal world we’d love to breed to a stallion that would give us sex balanced Ladykiller xx and get a filly to keep in the program. We’ve been thinking of trying to avoid Cor de la Bryere in this cross because it will be easy to add in future crosses. Stallions we’ve found and are considering: Landkonig, N Aldato (not sure we can still get frozen), and second tier Lord Lennox, Mighty Magic (to keep the TB% up), and Linaro (if we decide more Cor is OK).

In case the name didn’t make it too obvious, we are breeding for eventing
Suggestions appreciated.

I really like the looks of Levisonn - but not sure you want to add so much WB back in. My Quite Easy is very refined but still has the QDR jump. Mighty Magic baby is heavier than I thought he would be - may add too much substance?
Looking for a WB or TB?
My Linaro was light in type , but not much of a mover…

What about Lotus T - that would also keep your TB% up

This is the sort of mare I’d be thinking about breeding to a TB.

Have you ruled that out? And if so, because I’m curious, why?

I thought first of Cicera’s Icewater because he is what you say you don’t want…back to more Cor de La Bryere. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad. He is similar to what you would get but your TB in the dam side is really incredible.

I prefer Royaldik to Mighty Magic. I would also look at Hunter, Herald 3(if available)and Ekwador for Heraldik before Mighty Magic. Also Landadel, Indoctro, Jaguar Mail, Kannan has successful eventers doing well in GB. Flexible I think should be considered as a Cruising son. Also the stallion Flagmount King has frozen in California and he and his full brothers did well on the Irish Sport mares. I would also consider Clover Cliste http://www.irishdraught.com/horses/profile.php?unid=1742 brings in the right type with Clover Hill another successful eventing cross on Cavalier Royale though usually it was Clover Hill daughters bred to CR.

http://www.thebillystud.co.uk/ uses Irish mares and they document well what they are doing here are some crosses they made.

Also the international eventing mare UN who is a Cavalier Royale has been bred to Kannan and Harry the Hat maybe ask what they think of their choices.

The QDR’s are doing well in eventing, I think they are a good choice as well.

Cicera’s Icewater’s dam and Cavalier Royale are full siblings. Would be a nice, sex balanced linebreeding, but it’s a little close for some people’s comfort!

You might look at Quinar if you like the QDR lines. I’ve bred a Holsteiner mare to him twice and love the results.

For TBs you should look at Sea Accounts, A Fine Romance, and my own Noble Houston, all of whom are approved with at least one warmblood registry, and of course Coconut Grove, who’s approved with like EVERY registry, lol!

Cicera’s Icewater should not be used here because his mother , Cicera , is full sister to Cavalier Royale.

Three Eventing Stallions

Three event stallions who are walking the walk and talking the talk are Bravo, Warrick and my personal favorite, Worthy Opponent. Not that he’s my favorite because I own him or anything.

All three are competing successfully at the upper levels of eventing and doing quite well. Warrick is competing at the 3 star level, but not approved with many registries due to some missing pedigree information.

Bravo is competing at Prelim and I think moving to Canada to compete further. He’s been quite successful! He is approved ONA, GOV, Belgian, etc.

Worthy Opponent made his Intermediate debut this year and was Horse of the Year last year for Hanoverian for Preliminary Level Eventing. He is approved AHS, ONA, GOV, RPSI, etc. Due to his scores in the 100-day test he also produces A registry for KWPN.

All are currently located in California and competing regularly.

CR is becoming a super broodmare sire of young jumpers and eventers here in Ireland. So you should have lots of fun with this baby.

If you’d like some help with trying to track down a pedigree, shoot me a PM. I can try and be of some help. So very frustrating that Irish pedigree’s are often incomplete especially on the dam side.

If you are considering a full TB stallion for her, take a look at Rather Well

He’s successfully competed at the Advanced levels and is a really nice stallion overall!

We haven’t ruled out a full TB. Our dilemma is this, we have a 1 year breeding lease so will hopefully get 1 healthy foal from her. We are trying to plan a few generations ahead and set ourselves up for some good lines to re-concentrate. So one thought is to breed her to get something similar to her, hope for a filly to keep in the program, and breed that to a full or mostly TB to produce upper level eventers next generation. Or we could breed her to a TB and end up with something with more blood to breed to other WBxTB’s that are in the same (70-80%TB range). We’d really like to get some Ladykiller daughters into the line and since this is hard to find we thought it might be worth taking a chance on getting a filly so we “only” have to breed to a Ladykiller daughter line stallion once. Lots of things to weigh in this decision for sure!

Hope that makes sense. It did to us at the time

The only approved Stan the Man xx son out there is available frozen (good quality) - Laurel

He has four (?) crosses to ladykiller-I think he jumped to 1.4m --dam is sister to Lasino sire of several Olympic horses–by a holsteiner dressage stallion and he would be fresh I think. I think there is video to view his movement also (which I am unqualifed to comment on  (He also has at least 3 crosses to ramses…) Maybe he would be a good fit for the event world?

What about Lasino? Isn’t/wasn’t he Cor-free? Is he still available? He’s a very nice type.

What about Le Cavalier? http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/le+cavalier

Or Landchampion. 3/4 brother to Le Champion? Is he still around? Owned by Lisa DeVito?

Catherston Dazzler might be itneresting…

Also interesting enought Goodtimes shows up as #5 on the USEF eventing stallions list.
