Got me - looked at the chart and no break listed for any horse at any point. Must have been interference somewhere with the first three…they were close together and maybe some banging and crashing happened.
I think it was race 2. Maybe I caught the wrong race # (or track ). I’m pretty sure the winner was set back from first to third…
I checked hawthorne and saw the first three were re-arranged; all three were within a head of each other but I have no idea what happened. Does Hawthorne have replays online?
That I don’t know (replays online). What I believe the TVG guys said was that the horse that crossed the wire first broke for a stride at the head of the stretch (that when I used the DVR to replay could not see the break but then again, I’m not that experienced at that level of gait detection) so they set the horse that crossed the wire third behind the 2 horses that finished originally second/third …
Unlike the genuine horsemen here, I’m only going by what I’ve read, or seen on TV. There are so few grays among Standardbreds that I’ve only seen, maybe, five races in which a gray ran, and at least one was the same animal.
There were a couple of WHITE Standardbreds that I read of, but don’t know how they fared on the track. Never saw one race.
Not a lot of greys left now but there used to be a good number of them. As to the white ones. Historicallyunique did race and is now being a momma and White Bliss is sidelined for a bit with tendon/ligament problems.
White Bliss broke his maiden at Vernon Downs this summer.

The replay is on the Vernon Downs website https://www.vernondowns.com/racing/video/?view=track but I can’t remember what race it was.
My SO who has been in the business forever said that he has a really nice gait to him.
Watched a gray last night…Irish Lass?..looked as though she had a chance, until the top of the stretch, then faded to last, or next-to-last. They were showing several tracks so it could have been Hawthorne or Pomano. Can’t recall.
Why do the grays always do that to me?

There are some pintos too, but they seem to mostly be over seas. Tap In is a really pretty roan that is here in the US, but I can’t find any info on him, just a few pictures online. My neighbor breeds and races STBs and I was teasing her recently that she should breed me a spotted STB. She has all pacers, though they have an amazing trot on them that makes me think they could make good dressage mounts too. I get to baby sit hers when she goes to watch her horses race.
Couldn’t find a PQ on Irish Lass, so I probably got her name wrong. There’s an Irish Miss listed but as black. This mare was reeeally gray.
The mare is RJs Irish Lassie. She is listed as roan but with Admirals Galley as a sire, someone goofed with her colour.
sk_pacer… Pompano Park, Race 9… Line Pole (I think that is what is was) as a piece of equipment added/removed??? What is a Line Pole???
as always

White Bliss is apparently standing at stud this year. I want to say for $2,500? Clearly breeding for color there.

Tap In was actually exported. I met him a few years ago in Sweden:
Certainly older, but still very handsome, and quite a character. They were clearly quite fond of him
We had a roan in our barn about 4 years ago named Grandma Mary she was a beautiful bay roan but not a great racehorse. She was one of the few ones that actually could not trot. When we would go out to jog her in the mornings, she would look like she was getting ready to fall down until she switched over to the pace then was sound as a dollar free legged. She raced with hopples we never tried to train her free legged but I bet that may have been a better racehouse without them. I always wonder what happened to her.

A like pole is like a head pole but it hooks to the ring on the caveson and then has a ring on the other end that the line(rein) goes through. A head poly hooks to the ring on the caveson then hooks to the surcingle of the harness.

Where is the ring on the caveson? Side, top, bottom? What is the purpose of this piece of tack? Do many STB wear one?

We don’t call them cavesons; they are head halters or race halters. There are usually three rings - one on each cheek where it attaches to the noseband and one underneath where it buckles. I have never seen a horse race without a head halter because they are handy for more than attaching head poles and tie-downs, they are also used to attach cross ties in the paddock. Head poles attach at the head halter and to the water hook on the top the back pad of the harness.
OMG - so is there a place that you recommend that describes all the parts of a STB harness?? (diagrams, etc? yes, I am a visual learner )
I am thinking what I am familiar with isn’t necessarily what you guys are talking about (water hook???)
I think I know what the reins are (at least I hope so ) but I am beginning to think the rest is still a mystery…
There are illustrations on both Standardbred Canada and USTA sites and that targets equipement or at least the basics.
Water hook - a t-shaped hook between the turrets of the harness…like the turrets, it screws into the metal tree. Water hooks are found on all light harness and most heavy harness save the basic stuff for real work. It is where the overcheck hooks to the harness.
