Standardbred racing or I need a life :)

I don’t know the driver at all…just noted it was a Miller; both Ray and Larry wear green and gold as did their father. Havent a clue when I will see any of that family - usually just run into them by sheer dumb luck at some event when they come back to Saskatchewan.

Bike was purple and the silks were white lower and white/purple vertical bars on the top

I’ve only shipped in to the Meadowlands once (as groom) and we were there in the summer. I’ve heard people talking about the wind being tough to deal with turning for home at the Meadowlands, but I can’t remember if that’s been since the new grandstand and finish line were put in.

Brett Miller. https://www.facebook.com/brett.miller.1048?fref=ts

I was just watching (don’t know the race number) from Buffalo.

The favorite, Kisses N Kicks was “huge” compared to one of the other pacers… Regally Blonde (I think her name was).

Either Regally Blonde is a dink (and there were a few) or Kisses N Kicks is really tall

PS - gawd love those STBs. Buffalo in the 7th racing into a headwind on the back straight and blowing snow  Don’t know that you’d ever see the TBs doing that

My questions today are these:

  1. Has a horse ever come back from breaking stride to win?

  2. In today’s second at Yonkers, the place horse was named ‘Tapit.’ IS THAT EVEN ALLOWED?

There are far worse names than Tapit…

Butbutbutbutbut…Tapit? Famed TB sire? SB owners are allowed to do this?

Different breed registry, so I guess anything goes - I thought at first you were talking about an innuendo within the name, LOL - gotta get my head out of the gutter.

Most memorable STB name I know is Cadillakakakak which I now know is a Billy Joel song, but hearing it over the loudspeaker a million times during a race, is… weird.

Why not? Different registry… I would assume they could and do.

Great comeback from a break

Here is hitchhiker coming back to win it after making a break.

Although I do think this is very rare. There were a lot of breaks in this race.

Yeeek! So a SB could be named…Secretariat?

And trotting in the slop, too. Thanks!

There is(or was) a Standardbred named Secretariat, a bay mare born in 1988 by Landslide. There is also a Man O’ War, a brown gelding born in 2008 by Chocolatier and Affirmed a bay horse born in 2010 by Prague.

Now that’s just plain wrong, lol…

I need to look those up.

I actually think it’s wrong as well. There’s bound to be horses in both breeds with the same name, but the really famous names of each breed should be off limits. I think that’s just respectful.

There is a section in the rule book that states that names of outstanding horses can not be used again. I think that should include names of outstanding race horses other than Standardbreds, obviously the USTA doesn’t feel the same.

Well, conversely the Jockey Club would probably let someone name one Albatross if they wished.

Or Cam Fella, Somebeachsomewhere, Mack Lobell, etc…
