Steeplechasing 101?

A devestating performance from Sizing Europe, in the AIG Champion hurdle at Leopardstown (G1, 2m, ~$220k) yesterday has propelled the Harry de Bromhead trained horse into favourite for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, with some bokkies qouting him at as short as 5/2, with last year’s winner Sublimity drifting out to 5/1.
Here’s the replay, as you can see he handily disposed of former Champion Hurdle winner, Hardy Eustace, and perennial top hurdler, Al Eile. Seems to have almost too much respect for the hurdles, jumping them like a chaser, but it didn’t slow him down any. Very impressive indeed.

Incredible run.

Sizing Europe looks like he’d make a mighty fine eventer. It’s nice to see some young Irish-breds (like SE and Denman) making their way amid the French invasion.
