Straightening the Crooked Horse - the book

Well I got the book and have read the first half. It’s like they are talking about my horse through the whole thing! The pictures of the horses on the lunge are again my horse. We have been struggling with this problem since I bought her straight out of the pasture, and she has nearly ideal conformation and movement and no one can find a thing wrong with her, but dressage is a struggle for her because of her crookedness.

I think it’s interesting that they recommend one start on the lunge with just a proper cavesson, makes sense once you read where they are coming from. I am going to give it a try. We have certainly gotten no where with side reins.

Dug up this thread as I recently purchased the book. I have done some work with a trainer who’s worked with the authors and is very familiar with the system.

I am glad this thread has pointed me to some other text that might actually provide concrete info for application…

I have found the Schoneich work to be useful, and a lot faster than taking the time to teach lateral maneuvers in hand and/or long lines and/or modern “at liberty” approaches. But I doubt I would have got much from the book if I hadnt’t had a couple of weeks of direct experience working with a live person in the system.

I had been interested in looking into Marijke de Jong programs. But my eyeballs slightly hemorrhaged at the costs of her online courses.

Giiiirrrrl,
canter poles/canter raised cavaletti, or even better, small jumps on the circle. At canter.
work those hind legs!
jump jump jump!!
jumpibg is so beneficial for the dressage horsie’s booty.

I doubt the horse in the OP is now in shape for jumping… This is a 11yrs old thread.
