String test?? How accurate have you found it to be?
when I bought my horse, he was 4.5 yrs. old and measured 17.5H. They said he shouldn’t grow much more, maybe .5H. He is now 17.3 and looks 18.1. Might be more accurate with mare as they finish sooner than geldings…
Are those typos?

Yes, my horse was ~13.0hh when I measured him. He was 16 months old at the time and I was REALLY hoping that the test would be inaccurate.
Thanks!

I’m just curious. I need to actually do a string test on my guy. At last measure over a month ago he was 15.1h at the withers and about 15.3h behind. His dam is 16.3h and his sire is 17h, so we were guessing a height of around 17h just because of that. He’ll be 1 year old on May 19th.

Unless you end up with a horse like mine. Dam = 14.2 (on a good day); Sire = 16.0; Baby = 16.0

I guess there are exceptions to everything.
Averaging sure wouldn’t have worked for my Hanoverian mare either, lol.

Dam approx. 16.2; sire 16.3; baby 18.2!

Holy cow! There’s a surprise!!! What is her breeding?!

When measured at nearly 3, my boy was 15.3ish and the string test said he would be 16.2, which I didn’t want to believe at the time.

A year and a half later, he is closing in on 16.2. His sire was 16.1 1/2 and not sure about the dam.

I can top that one!
Dam, 15.3. Sire, 16.2. Baby–17.+

Same sire, 15 hand dam, 16 hand mare. That was more what I was expecting the first time around.

My current filly is 3 1/2 months old, 12.2. Mama is 15.2, Sire is 17.1. I expect that the foal will be much closer to dad’s height than mama’s.
