How about wearing your hunt colors because you - Heaven forbid - EARNED them. Nowadays the “style” is hunt colors for anywhichwhobody.
I’ve always wanted a wool Newmarket quarter sheet. My horse is only 14.2 so it would hang off of him…but the colors would look good on him.
I miss Devon Aire’s Cool Cotton britches. They came in nice colors; my fave were powder blue. I recently found a pair in dark green in a thrift store exactly like a pair I once owned. Just wore them today. Years ago I had a pair of off-brand canary yellow britches that looked good with everything.

Smith-Worthington carries them. So does Schneider’s. I have two pairs of Bobby’s plaited reins, one raised and one flat. Use them all the time. I actually prefer plaited reins.
I lust for those Smith Worthington plaited reins!

Yabbut how do you clean 'em?
Plaited reins say “tooth brush and work” to me.
What in the world is a round bridle? I’m old(ish) and I don’t know that term.

I’m wondering if it’s a rolled bridle??
When I was a teen, all the cool kids had super nice full chaps. Dunno if they were custom, but they sure as heck were fancier than mine (off the rack hunter green suede). I would love a pair of customs, but with the advent of half chaps I doubt I will ever get some!

I want my Beval World Cup back. The one with the suede padded flaps. I had an Hermes and it was fine, but I loved my World Cup.
Can you believe this was right on top in the Saddle CryoFreeze? I can’t. And this isn’t the first time this has happened: Someone wanted an obscure saddle and Blamo… It showed up!
Also, I think this one I would like to ride in for a minute: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crosby-XL-E-17-inch-Saddle-Narrow-Tree-Michael-Matz-Edition-With-Cover-/221824979967?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a5cc93ff
If you want some indulgent braided reins, I have a set of these and the leather is gorgeous: http://worldequestrianbrands.shptron.com/p/braided-leather-reins-hook-studs?pp=12
I did have to roll them a bit and they are on the thick side, I am guessing on the 3/4 side of 5/8 inch reins. But nice! And soft once you break them in with a good feel in your hands. Like the old ones.
I think the key with braided reins is that you need to wipe them down after each ride with a quite damp tag to get the sweat off if you don’t want to spend hours with a toothbrush when it dries in there.

Those are beautiful. I agree about the cleaning: I never have to take a toothbrush to my reins, but I wipe them off after every ride.

Yeah, a round bridle is sometimes called a rolled bridle, although some sold as "rolled " have only a rolled browband/noseband. A true round bridle has a rolled crown piece, cheek pieces, and reins as well. I often saw them at shows and events; now they are hard to find although you may see them at events and dressage shows: most of those available these days seem to be double bridles or ones with a flash attachment. Here’s a pic (even this one has a raised, not round, noseband):

I had the off the rack in navy blue. Every summer in the 100 degree heat I would wear them. My pants would always be stained navy blue from all the sweating I did in those things. Then I got my customs with the fringe and piping for my birthday. I remember in the late 90s saying those half chaps are ugly and a fad… Once I got myself a pair I don’t think I ever put back on my custom chaps again, silly me.
I always wanted a butet and the fancy stitch padded edgewood. Never did get that butet though. It never fit any of my horses and I can say I never like riding in one either.

Years ago, I groomed for a man who was a rookie rider and joined the local hunt. He asked me if he could buy his colors. I was unable to hide my distaste when I told him of course he couldn’t. But guess what??? Of course he could.

I do still have a soft spot for rust breeches.
Rustbreeches appreciates all the love found on this thread!
I still have my full chaps, sans fringe, made by Chuck when he was still in Middleburg. Still have my needle point belt with my name and stitched in colors to match my Caliente cover, still have but obviously don’t use the helmet and cover.
I wanted my own tractor trailer to haul to shows in, but I would settle for a bus!
m&m - grrrrrrr
I had a Stubben Wotan. I ended up having to sell it because my femur got longer between my teenage years and adulthood. I sure was a comfortable saddle and it seemed to fit everyone.
What’s with the custom chaps with needlepoint and fringe doing in a “back in the day” thread? My “coral” (they are NOT pink!) chaps are hanging in my tackroom waiting for me to lose 10 poinds so I can bend my knees in them when riding. I have never worn anything other than full chaps, smooth side out with needle point monogram and fringe. To me, they have never gone out of style.
Other things I still use:
My noseband with my initials stitched in the front (Jimmy’s Saddlery)
Shadbelly with a separate vest.
Leather grooming halters.
Morales custom boots (Jose Morales was Dehner’s top bootmaker and he left to start his own company). Well I do not ride in them anymore, but I still have them in my closet.
Melton wool dress cooler (it will not die, it is so thick and well made).
My ‘Saddler’ saddle (thanks Al Aquino – miss you!). It is now my guest saddle. I have become a “thigh block” wuss.
I also have a “round” bridle. It was a birthday gift when I was fourteen and I used it as my show bridle for about twenty years. It has faded to a weird olive green color and is past it’s prime but I just can’t part with it. I’ve heard it called a “rolled” bridle too.

Plaited reins are the only ones I’ll use! <3 <3 <3 them!
I love them too!
Because I am older than dirt I did have most of these things:
I still have my Siegfried which I got when I was 14, use it now to put on youngsters.
Still have a Prix, use it to get youngsters used to a saddle.
Had a Stuebben rolled bridle back in the day, but it was stolen, years ago.
What is worse, I think I know who stole it.
I had beautiful custom-made fringed chaps when I was a whole person smaller. But if I ever lose enough weight, this is the company I would order a pair from, Turning Point Leather.
sigh.

I like plaited reins but only when they’re thin and soft/ropy. Then they are super grippy and easy to hold. At some point over time they started making them wider and now I can’t find ones at all that are like what I remember. I remember them being quite thin-- no wider than the width of standard laced reins and maybe even the tiniest titch narrower?!
