I’m older, and will now get off voluntarily as long as I can stop my horse for long enough to step off, but if my only option is to jump off a moving horse I’ll stay on and hope I can get him stopped before I get off involuntarily.

My dumbest fall ever was off a horse that was barely moving. I had hopped on my friends ancient, bombproof mare bareback for a few minutes. I had just asked her to walk, she tripped, and I somersaulted over her head, landing on my feet with an arena full of people to witness it. It was ridiculously dramatic considering the mare had taken ONE step.
