Sudden Death

I know it probably hurts to watch that video right now, but it is a beautiful memory of you on your lovely gelding. His ears are up, he seems interested in his surroundings and content to be with you. I don’t think you missed any symptoms or did anything wrong. My condolences on your loss.

Some things cannot be predicted or prevented. They just happen. Not that it makes it any easier for you… I would assume even a vet could miss catching something like this.

Heart arrhythmias sometimes only occur during exercise. Atrial Fibrillation?

I’m sorry for the loss of your horse. He looks very cheerful and not stressed in the video you posted.
When I was 16 one of the horses I groomed died suddenly. Our barn sent horses to 6-8 weeks of turnout between seasons (polo), and this mare came back particularly fat. On this May day, I rode her bareback in a halter around our courtyard for no more than 15 minutes, hosed her off, and put her back in her stall. There were no signs of anything out of the ordinary. My barn pal and I went to throw hay in the paddocks and we came back to her dead in her stall. It looked like she simply fell over; the stall wall had been kicked out and her legs were straight. It was hard for me to call her owner, my boss, and explain what happened.
He was kind. He said sometimes these things seem to randomly happen. Maybe it was related to the weight, the turnout, or nothing at all. He didn’t blame me and you should not blame yourself.
Hang in there :two_hearts:

I am so sorry to hear about your sweet boy.

Be kind to yourself. We do not have the ability to see what is happening on the insides. You two rode 1000’s and 1000’s of miles together, that is awesome in and of itself.

I’m fine. I’ll just start working on my 7 year old mare to make her a good replacement. And I have a yearling filly coming up that I will start putting work into as a 3 year old.

A couple you tube videos or my gelding working

I’ve only used Benadryl when my horse had swelling from an insect sting. It works well for that purpose.
