Suggestions for nice 2 horse trailer for camping?

Congratulations! I’ve been camping regularly (2-3 weekends per month during the Spring/Summer/Fall) for the past 4 years now, and while I don’t have my own truck/trailer yet (I tag along with family) I hope to someday.

Here are some must-have’s for my trailer:

  1. At least 3 horse for storage purposes

  2. Pass-through door from LQ/tack room to horse area

  3. Ramp. SO much easier to load/unload firewood, hay, water, etc. with a ramp. Also makes the trailer multi-purpose in case I ever needed to haul my motorcycle, etc.

  4. 8’ wide and 7.5’ tall. It is AMAZING how much difference that extra 6"-1’ makes when talking room - in the dressing room/LQ as well as for storage and in the horse area.

  5. GOOSENECK. Whether I convert a plain dressing room into a weekend package, or a LQ, gooseneck is all I will consider in the future. Camping with horses is enough work in itself…having to also set up/take down a tent or clean out the back of the two horse to make up your sleeping accommodations is just tiresome. Having your bed in the gooseneck, dry, warm and already made = PRICELESS.

I’m SO jealous of your new truck. A 3/4 ton Chevy/GMC diesel is my dream truck. You’re going to LOVE the way it tows!

Thanks!!! He got a great deal on the truck and it pulls like a dream! We are very happy!!!

I’ll just weigh in to say I’ve been very pleased with my 2H BP Warmblood Edition from Logan. I have a pull down cot in the tack room and camper ventilation, and swivel arms on the trailer for high lining at trailhead. Somewhere I have a picture. Anyhow, set up for ‘me’ in remote areas is toilet/shower in the stalls, if I am in a campground with restrooms, a second and third family member can pitch cots in the stalls if we are too lazy to pitch tents.

Oh I really like the Logan trailers. Yours sounds very nice! I’m down sizing, sold my 3 horse gn slant (Sooner) last year. I’ve been eyeing the Circle J’s. They look like good trailers for a reasonable price.

I towed the three horse with my 2010 tundra. It pulled, and stopped, the trailer like a dream. Way better than the 07 dodge (3/4 ton).

My buddy has one of these; http://www.horseprotrailers.com/product/e3058-merhow-2h-week-ender and its nice. You can get it in straight load too.

That is nice! I’d chose the one with wood floor and steel frame. I haven’t seen that make on the west coast though.

OK this is an old post!!! But still wondering. We still have the GMC 3/4 ton diesel. I am currently looking for a used 3/4 ton that I can use as the “dedicated tow vehicle” since the GMC is also Mr. Mukluk’s personal vehicle. I want something I can just leave the trailer hitched to. Our circle J is OK. But down the road, I’d like to get a roomy straight load with large tack room for our two 16.2 hand TBs. We are in CA so anything with only an east of the rockies distribution will likely not work for us. So your trailer thoughts circa 2016 are very welcome!!!

I loved my Equispirit GN 2-horse. I ordered an extra foot of length in the tack room and in the stalls.

There’s space for a queen-size mattress above the GN, lovely long screened windows on both sides of the sleeping area. I ordered a door between the horse space and the tack room so that I could move all tack and horse equipment back into the horse space while camping. I also got fans for the ponies!

It is such a thoughtfully designed trailer filled with safety features. I sold it in a fit of downsizing and have some regrets.

I have found that it depends on your wants. If you want a bathroom, shower, stove, and TV you are going to buy a different sort of trailer. I only really use electric when its cold at night, you can run a factory 12volt fan in the roof vent off your truck and charge your phone. Use the camp facilities toilets and showers and you’re good.

Hi all. just to be clear, I am looking for a bumper pull non- LQ trailer. Just a roomy straight load trailer for two big OTTBs with a nice tack room. I will either tent camp of other non LQ option. Thanks.

Ah, the Brenderup. I have the sliding tack room. Awesome. The trailer panels stay cool even when hauling through Sacramento in the daytime in August. A quarter of the tongue weight of my prior BP, though it weighs the same.

If you want to consider a GN, I have an older Sundowner 2+1 with a dressing room, which I think would work really well for what you want.
The horses are in their section, in front of that is the +1 area which has a side ramp/window, so that they are not cramped or crammed in, but can see out ahead of themselves. This area is big enough that you can put your lawn chairs in there out of the (possible) rain, or the sun. The dressing room area extends over the GN and could easily be a sleeping area.

Thanks but I am wanting a bumper pull. Hope your trailer finds a good home.

How old?? Is it ALL aluminum or steel frame?
