Suggestions needed: What to put on top of the bed? (To prevent mud getting on duvet)

I buy inexpensive fleece blankets and throw them over the bed. Washable, moderately attractive, and inexpensive.

I use a flat sheet on top of comforter. I guess you could put a tarp (the heavy duck/ canvas fabric…not plastic) over it.

And they tend to stick to the clean sheet/duvet cover/whatever that’s on top of the bed. It does help. And I’d buy an oversize one. Come to think of it, 2 of them layered might do it: You alternate which one is on top, washing it and putting it on the bottom as it gets too grotty.

Thanks!!! I found a king size polarfleece blanket that is mud colored in my outings at TJ Maxx yesterday.

And it was only $20!!! Very happy. And I did notice it kind of stuck to the duvet cover. Awesome suggestion. Thanks guys.

I use those things that furniture movers wrap furniture in. Moving pads I think they’re called. Got some for free. They’re thick and keep the big German Shepherd feet nails and dirt from going through the light stuff. If visitors come I can take them off but otherwise for just me and them works great.

The fleece doesn’t work for me because GSDs shed like crazy and fleece instantly is coated with hair which is almost impossible to get out. The hair doesn’t stick to the moving pads.

I gave up a long time ago trying to protect my bedding from hair and dirt. When I redid my bedroom, I decided I was going “hotel/spa” themed. All of my bedding is white, sheets, duvet everything. I have grey throws and pillows for accents.

The hotels choose white because it’s crisp and clean and they can bleach it to get rid of stranger cooties! So that’s what I do (minus the stranger cooties). My king sized duvet was $30 at IKEA and is super durable and soft. My dogs don’t have access to my bedroom without me home so I don’t expect muddy piggies rolling around, but I did have massive amounts of Huskita hair with my last foster dog.

It works for me and my bedding always looks fresh. Now if I could figure out how to get room service to work around here…

I use a king size sheet.
I have also used a dark blue wool cooler and it looked really nice and stayed put!
Like the drop cloth suggestion as well .

I know someone who uses a blue tarp! She has greyhounds and they just destroy any sort of fabric. She bungi cords it down. Me, I would just keep them out of the room but it works for her.

My first thought would simply be not to let the dog on the bed. Especially if she only has access to the room at night. Let her have her own bed and save your sheets.

If you really need her on the bed then a thin blanket of any kind would protect it somewhat.

I posted about the same problem, as my dogs are confined in my room during the day. I’ve started to use old blankets on the bed during the day, leaving my pillow off the bed.

I’ve used fleece blankets and also, “wipe-able” table cloths! (oilcloths? I don’t know the English term for these)
A friend once gave me one that is way too big for our table, and is coated on one side so it is waterproof but still very nice to the touch, and still grippy enough on the other side to stick to our queen duvet cover. Perfect

So we have a lovely new bedroom in our new house with nice new sheets. We’re admittedly still in the new phase and would love to think that mud, paws, hair etc will never besmirch our lovely bed. Reality is of course that it will in the future, but we’re trying to delay that moment.

So it’s a king size bed with a duvet with cover. What could we put on top that wouldn’t shift to protect the light grey duvet cover from paw marks???

Any ideas?

I thought maybe an old quilt or the like and suggested acquiring one from goodwill. Dh is not thrilled with the concept and mentioned the lurking threat of bed bugs. I did explain a dryer can solve that issue quickly, he still seems not to be in favor of this idea.

What works for you all?

I buy those natural cotton/canvas painting tarps sold at Home Depot, Lowes or any paint store. They come in various sizes and hold up FOREVER!

The largest size covers a king-size bed with room to spare! Down to the floor on both sides.

They are a bit stiff out of the package, but soften up nicely after several washes. In fact, they get better the more you wash them, and fold up easily, like sheet.

Since they are a natural canvas color, they ‘go’ with just about any type of decor.
