Thank you all for the support. My brave little guy was put to sleep this morning.
He became even worse, and he lost control of his bowels at 4 am. I was with him, and sat with him until the vet opened at 8. His little body just couldn’t handle it anymore.
I stayed with him until the end, and told him how much I loved him. I know it was the right decision.

Thank you. I knew what needed to be done this morning. I cried a little bit then and I think in the back of my mind I had been preparing myself since this all started. But I can’t stop crying now.
The vets supposed he had vestibular ataxia, rather than a stroke. But there was something else going on in his body that just was failing him. I think the vets all did wonderful jobs, there was just nothing that could be done to save him.

I’m so sorry! It will probably help later on to know that you did everything possible to get a diagnosis and treatment because you’re clearly a great cat owner and he was lucky to have you!

We try so hard and sometimes it’s just not enough. It’s so awful to lose such a good friend. Thanks for doing right by him. I’m sorry that you lost him.

Thank you all. It’s so sweet to read all the messages.
I know the heartbreak will subside over time. The rational side of me knows that, but the emotional side is ruling at the moment. This is the first morning without him, without our morning routine that we’ve done for years and years.
Our pet friends take up so much space in our hearts, but leave such a big hole when they’re gone.
