Ahhhh I had a pair of Oakley M frames from 1996. I gifted them to one of my nieces when I could no longer wear contacts and she’s still wearing them for fishing etc. They are built to last.
@beau159 Thank you for chiming in, I appreciate the input. What would you say the extra cost for progressives vs single vision is? I have progressive glasses but opted for single vision sunglasses because I wasn’t sure I’d love the progressives, and wanted to keep costs down somewhere. I do love the progressives. It came really naturally despite several people saying it would take a while to get used to them. I don’t often find myself “needing” the close up in my sunglasses, but if it’s not too much more, I might do progressives next time.
If anyone is wondering if they should get progressives… I love them. I should have done them a year or so sooner.
I think the OP is saying the part about them needing sunglasses and they want to be safe, but while being safe they do not want to look crazy.
Which to me is very different than ‘how can I look sexy in my sunglasses’.
Nowhere in the OP is safety mentioned as a priority.
She mentions that she had worn safety/milspec type before and thought they looked bad, and wanted something more stylish.
The mic had some serious squealing feedback when we couldn’t even spell the governing organization’s acronym, proving we didn’t even know what it stood for.
ANZI.
What’s the Z for?
The z and the s are pretty close on they keyboard so to me it was obvious it was a typing error. Or maybe a speak to text error.
The rest of the information seemed spot on.
S and Z are on totally different rows, and the mistake was made repeatedly. If you’re going to jump on a high horse, at least make sure you’re facing the right way.
I agree. And I don’t contest any of it. BUT… Not all eye wear is considered “safety glasses” even if they’re considered to have shatter proof lenses. I have two glasses in front of me right now that prove it.
So those with prescription sunglasses should make sure their frames are impact rated. Those buying regular sunglasses should make sure of the same.
It’s not a “let’s go to the gas station and pick something up, ANSI’s got us covered” type scenario.

@endlessclimb, she said it was a typo. There is no need to insult their intelligence and I didn’t see @beau159 coming across as entitled but an expert on the subject. I very much appreciate their feedback.
Again, if you’re going to be a lecture giver, at least be on point.
Like if your complaining about grammer. (pun all intended)
Wow. Didn’t mean to hit a nerve(s) with this. I’m in a remote desert somewhere with no horses and all the time in the world to plan things I want and need when I get back.
Yes, I would like a pair of sunglasses that do the job to keep me being able to see on course. Because some of the places I show have blinding footing or arena construction. Anyone shown in the Olympic Grand Prix arena in Georgia? All the concrete and rock is blinding.
I absolutely get the concept of safety rated glasses and such. Still not what I asked about. We pay obscene amounts of money to be judged by others. I don’t think it’s blasphemous to want our equipment to look good. I’m not saying go to walmart and grab the first blingy pair of aviators you find.
For those who made suggestions, I thank you. For those who turned this in to a minor train wreck, ~hand gestures carelessly~ carry on. That’s not what I came here looking for…
nice form Reed
I am reminded of the old aphorism that the first thing one should do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.

Let. It. Go.

OH MY GOD !
This is quite fascinating. I don’t think I’ve had a thread go off the tracks before. Usually I hardly get responses because I start topics that, I don’t know, maybe people don’t care about? Apparently I found one that was more heated than I expected
I have Duane’s - which also is medically rare - about 1 in 10,000, but my specific Rx is significantly more rare than that as Duane’s presents extremely differently across cases.
Not to revive the dead horse - haven’t been on the forums in a while!!!
Yes, I have a few patients with that. There’s different kinds too of course. Really creates an issue when your eye muscles refuse to work together.

Sorry for my delayed response; been busy. The price difference between a PAL and a SV lens will vary greatly. SV is much cheaper because they are cheaper to manufacture. Plus, you have to also keep in mind there are different types of PALs and their prices will also vary greatly.
Think of it this way. You have low end cars and you have expensive cars (Tesla, Ferrarri).
Let’s look at a Ford Pickup. You have the 150 or 250, or 350. You can have the regular, you can have the Platinum, or the King Ranch. You can have a short box or a long box. All these things are different, and even have differences within the same model and will have an price difference with it all.
So you might walk into Walmart or a Lenscrafters (or any other similar chain in your area) and be quoted much cheaper prices than if you walk into a high end optical boutique or a private optometry office. But the difference is often in the brand of the PAL and the BETTER OPTICS they can provide. Do you want a PAL with a wide field of view, less peripheral distortions, and a smooth power transitions? You’re going to pay more for that.
Will a cheaper less-custom non-digital PAL get the job done? Sure it will. But you’ll have increased distortions, narrow corrider, etc etc.
I often tell patients if you want to price shop or compare, actually ask what lenses they use. Hoya? Essilor? Zeiss? And which PAL model are they recommending for you? What does the doctor think will work best for your needs?
I’ll stop rambling now but so much goes into a lens selection that the patient doesn’t realize. Which is fine, because that’s OUR job to HELP you make the best deicsion for your vision and your budget.
No I am not arguing with her, that’s what so annoying to me.

Well, I can see you are still annoyed.
Have a nice day.
I’ll look forward to reading your future perfect posts with precise punctuation and superior spelling.
