Sunglasses While Riding

I bought some Native Sunglasses years ago. They came with a Lifetime warranty. $130. They lasted about 3 years and my horse broke them. ( head swinging sidewise and smacked me) To collect the lifetime warranty I had to explain how they got broken. They have a $30 shipping fee for the replacement, Which I’m sure covered their cost of the new glasses and shipping. I broke them a second-time several years after the first and again submitted them for replacement. They responded that the no longer made my original model and were substituting another style and it would not have the life time warranty. So I have gotten 7-10 years out of a pair of $130 glasses. Worth the investment.

I have a good friend that makes/sells Safety Glasses. I’ve had several conversations with him about glasses and the difference in price between his $20 safety glasses and the $150 Brand Name glasses. He says there is about $1.00 difference in his cost to build his and high-end brand name glasses. So there is a huge mark up in glasses. Most of which goes to magazine ads and advertising.

I usually buy a box of his sunglasses and give them out to Subcontractors on my job as Christmas presents etc, But keep a pair or two around for my spares or to use in a situation that might damage my good glasses. To be honest, I think his glasses are every bit as good.

I wear these. They’re “safety glasses” but block 100% of UV A and B. They so comfortable I forget I have them on, they’re CHEAP, $10 on amazon, we buy them by the box at the supply house for about half that (hubby is a contractor) and they have enough wrap that blowing stuff won’t get in your eyes.
