RR-
Since you ask, I’ll spill the whole sad story. Maybe if someone renders it in stick art, I’ll be able to laugh about it.
I went into the UPS store in Wellington, and asked if they still carried the coconut postcards that I had sent to friends some years ago. (Brilliant idea- a real coconut with postage and an address label on it.)
The guy behind the counter burst out laughing, and said, “You remember those?!?”
Well, obviously, since otherwise it would be a pretty random question to pull out of thin air.
He informed me that they no longer had them, and as I left the store, I heard him telling his co-worker about how his DAD used to bring in the coconuts that fell off the tree in their back yard, put the labels and postage on them, and sell them, as if this had happened when dinosaurs ruled the earth. He told his colleague that it had been at least 10 years ago, and he couldn’t believe somebody still remembered them.
That experience, combined with a recent birthday, makes me reluctant to guess any Olympic answers prior to Sydney!
