Supplements that help with ulcer prevention

Thank you for this. The only time she’s without hay is at shows so that’s where I’m trying to find a solution. This looks awesome though!

I’ve seen this one too! Looks like the same idea as the Porta grazer. Thanks!

I like my porta grazers and it does slow my girls down so they spend less time without hay overnight but most of the time it is empty in the morning even if I really stuff it full. They have 24/7 turnout in runs and go out in other paddocks during the day.

I feed Relyne to my horses with ulcer history, but honestly I think ulcery horses will have ulcers. At least one of mine requires a lot of management around it and she just is a stressy type of horse. I can’t change her personality fundamentally so she may always be at high risk of ulcers.

Dr Sykes has done a lot for research into ulcer prevention, although a lot of his recommendations are not feasible for a boarded horse. For fatties, he recommends mixing a small amount of straw in with the hay, so they have something low in calories to pick through for a longer time.

Big PortaGrazer fan here, and we also went through a prolonged ulcer nightmare with my TB. PG is expensive up front but worth every penny. Mine is going on 8 years of daily use and still looks like new. They aren’t super practical for shows, unfortunately. Bulky and kind of difficult to lug around.

I’ve never tried the Helix Feeder but that’s one I’ve considered as a portable alternative. We end up just using hay nets at shows. Not my favorite either but for short term use, I’d rather my horse have consistent access to hay.

Purchased a Porta grazer yesterday. Hopefully it helps!
