Surprise Tent Revival … what weird things have happened by your farm?!

Your BO was lucky she had boarders left. What a dangerous situation. It always makes me wonder how people can be raised with no consideration for others. :slightly_frowning_face:

Now why do I feel the need to see a picture of this “evil mini.”

This. But I also have the impression that revivals draw people from a wide area and many different churches. Sort of like a county fair that is a chance for people from all over a county to share an experience. This is just a guess on my part since I’ve never attended one.

That is a beautiful unrepentant mini you have there. But I’m sure @ladybugsbw’s mini must look like a little angel so it will be a whole 'nother story. :upside_down_face:

ETA: Whoops, should have read the entire thread first. I take it back. @ladbugsbw’s mini doesn’t look as innocent as I pictured in my mind. Yeah, no hope of the revival reclaiming that one from the dark side. But so cute!!

Wow, that air saw thing is so cool and pretty darn scary at the same time.

In the middle of the night the neighbors camper caught fire that was only 100’ from my barn. They have so much junk laying around the fire department wasn’t able to get to the trailer. I thought it would be safer to leave my horses in their paddock and not turn them out in the pasture in case the fire spread. The worst part was when the propane tanks exploded. My horses stood like statues watching the whole time. The trailer burned to the ground with only the frame left.

We’ve had these come through Maryland (near Frederick). They were probably trimming a mile away but it was loud. Not enough to be distracting but enough that we were really curious about what was going on. We get plenty of light planes normally so the horses didn’t care too much.

I’d forgotten this story, but it’s a good one. The other year my trainer was awakened by police about 1 or 2am telling her they needed to search the farm for a suspect. Yep, dogs, roadblocks, the works. Fortunately, I think most of the horses took it ok. One, however, did not, and ran away up the road (we think the suspect went through his paddock & left the gate open), leapt a cattle guard and it took about 2 hours to find him. He was ok other than some scrapes, amazingly. I think they evenutally caught the guy, but several days later.

Not long. We have HABs here, landing all over the joint. I swear myself and my horses must be in a lot of Japanese TikTok videos because there is always a lot of pointing when we ride past, around, and occasionally under the balloons. The dogs are more upset than the horses now.

Yes, several years ago. I’m able to work from home sometimes and one day, there was this really loud, annoying helicopter buzzing around just outside. I assumed it was the National Guard looking for pot plants… they do that sometimes (not at my place specifically :joy:). Kept at it though so I went outside, and saw exactly what’s in @endlessclimb’s video. I wasn’t expecting that! Until that moment I didn’t know such a thing existed.

For context, this is my barn and house, cut through the middle by the power line. The helicopter and blades were making pass after pass right through the center, at nearly ground level. As I stood there and watched I was probably closer to the blades than spectators would have been at a demonstration.

Helicopter was cruising back and forth to cut the section on either side of my house…

And the power cut between our and our neighbors property

Wait, so Admiral Boom from Mary Poppins exists in real life? At least his cannon is to mark time - 8am and 6pm.

Oh yes, we have that neighbor too! it is a shocking sound when you’re not expecting it. I also left out shooting ranges from my list, because that’s pretty much par for the course in a rural area (though having a cannon on your shooting range is, thankfully, more unique I think!). My horses don’t care about gunshots at all.

Where I used to board, the barn was through-the-woods neighbors with a gun manufacturing facility. Highly recommend for anyone with a gun-shy horse; when they hear it all day, every day in their pasture, it becomes background noise!

This reminded me of another weird story. We were woken up around 1am by the rhythmic sound of a bell calmly going back and forth near the front gate of our pasture. Looking out the bedroom window, we could just barely make out the silhouette of a couple of dogs and people. This is a vacation-heavy area, so we thought maybe it was some vacationers who were looking for a dog that got away. We bundled up (March) and stumbled out to make sure they knew the electric fence was on and that we didn’t want their dogs in the pasture anywhere near the horses.

Come to find out, it was a search and rescue team looking for an elderly woman with dementia who was missing for almost 48 hours in below-freezing temperatures. They did eventually find her in the woods about 0.5 mile away, and her loyal dog she had been walking in the woods when she got lost had stayed by her side until they were both found. Very cold, very hungry and thirsty, but both ok.

I also have a neighbor that used to have a cannon! I’m told he would fire it now and then before we moved here but as far as I know, he has not fired it since we moved in. He did keep it aimed at the property across from him. He really didn’t like the people there. Once they moved, the cannon disappeared. I’m not sure if he still has it or not.

A barn where I boarded was next to a large county park. The local govenrment decided it was a great place to have a music festival (rock and rap). The area was a mix of small farms with livestock and some residential. Nobody thought it would be loud, but it was barn-shaking loud! The you-know-what hit the fan and the county made them turn down the voulume after the first day. That was the first and last time they did something that stupid.
