Swelling above eye + cornea ulcer

Yes, drove down there yesterday in a massive windstorm (super fun).

The vet came out with another vet from the practice and re-checked his eye: the ulcer is basically gone…which astounded everyone. We are still to medicate and keep doing what we are doing, and then another check in a week. The eye itself is wide open, no discharge, and looks good. Considering the size of the green uptake with the stain at the first visit, I am counting his lucky stars. She said the eye looks “very quiet” (no signs of inflammation anywhere) and if he had an infection behind the eye, she would’ve seen more signs in the exam.

The swelling on his temple is significantly improved as of yesterday, and the heat has dissipated. Blood was drawn and all markers were reportedly normal as of last night. His temp has been fine throughout with no nasal discharge or anything else of concern.

With this positive update, we decided to keep him there instead of taking him back home as we had been planning. He was cleared for groundwork and lunging, and when the week passes the doc will assess the swelling again. She (the vet) thinks the most likely cause of the swelling is a nicked vessel when they pulled the molar that bled into the area and formed a hematoma, now slowly reabsorbing. Either that, or he flung his head and hit something. She did not advocate for an image at this time, since it seems to be resolving.

Overall, we are feeling pretty relieved right now. There was a tiny concern about strangles, perhaps induced by the vaccine he was given, or some sort of reaction to that, but that has been ruled out as of yesterday.
