Tack shops in/near Philadelphia?

Oxford is 45 min-1 hr from center city to reach Bit of Britain, even for me it takes 20 min. up Rt. 1 by pass from the DE state line near Dover Saddlery. Rick’s Heritage in West Chester might be the closest or Malvern even closer. Is Broad Axe still around? There’s one in Buck’s County isn’t there? Dover in Hockessin is tax free shopping.
Ha! what time of day would that be that it only takes 45 minutes to get to Oxford–3:00 am??

Seriously though, I live near the Phila airport and anywhere on 95 coming out of the city, southbound, is a nightmare. Norhtbound is not so hot either. And forget the Blue Route (476)–which is what I would take to get to Route 1 to head out to Oxford.

I guess I need to learn some back road routes…

Shop on line–that’s the ticket!

You mention Horseman’s Outlet, there’s on by that or a similar name on Rt. 41 around Cochranville and I’ve heard it’s great. Never been.
I don’t think it’s related to the one in Lebanon, NJ. As far as I know, the one in NJ is an independent store with no other outlets. It’s awesome though!

Also, a lot of these stores close early. Part of the reason I’ve only been to BoB once EVER is that they close at 5pm on weekdays. How very hospitable for anyone who works for a living and hasn’t powered up their hovercraft

If you take the R5 out to Malvern it is a short walk down King Street to Malvern Saddlery. Lots of beautiful things in there and if you are looking for something specific just ask. Chances are they have it in the mysterious downstairs.

I have to admit I am a Malvern Convert - used to think it was nothing more than an overpriced gift shop with horsey stuff. But I have found that the prices are comparable to Rick’s on the horse care items and things like the TS breeches are actually less expensive at Malvern. Go figure.

They carry quality items a solid prices for sure, I just think that to the average rider they suffer sticker shock because they ONLY carry high end items. Not really the place to stop in for a set of bell boots or a new saddle pad. They’re more the best place to custom order a Mattes pad. A cool shop for sure.

Do Trot In, Dover and Bucks County Saddlery are all relatively close to one another in Bucks county. I live in Northwest Philly, and usually try to make a trip to one of those when I’m visiting my parents’ who live closer.
There is a decent amount to do in Bucks county, you could perhaps plan to do some other things aside from visiting one or all three of those if you have time.

Great idea to take the train to Malvern. Not sure if the hours would work, depending on OP’s schedule, but the train would be the most bearable of all of the options posted here, especially if OP just wants to see some pretty stuff other than than what they have at TSC! Just don’t look for the R5 - ask for the “Paoli/Thorndale”

I’ve been to the Horseman’s Outlet (or whatever it’s called) on 41. Was not impressed.
