We mostly use the clumping litter from Costco. I am not sure of the brand but I think it is Scoop Away.
We have used Fresh Step and Tidy Cat. DH and I way prefer the clumping litters. We have 3 boxes, one per floor, and 6 cats. But the cats are all indoor/outdoor so do use the outdoors for some of their business.

Well, after all your helpful suggestions I went with the Yesterday’s News. I am on the fence. My cat has no trouble tracking the little pellets out all over the place after he leaves the box. He must have wide feet that grab on to the pellets! I have not noticed any odor after he uses the bathroom but as someone above mentioned it is hard to get the wet litter out without taking some of the dry with it. We are in the process of turning a little chest we have into a litterbox hiding piece of furniture. Once the box is stored in there the flinging of the litter wont be such an issue.
For those of you that use Yesterday’s News how often do you find yourself putting new litter in the box? I make sure to scoop 1x day to get what I can see but I feel this will have to be completely changed at least weekly. Any suggestions?[/QUOTE]
That is not unusual (though I, too, didn’t expect it). I don’t keep the boxes super-deep, so I’m probably adding at least a small scoop every time I clean the box. It is not a cost-effective litter, which is why I said it was the one I’d choose if money were no object (I have Blue Buffalo walnut in other boxes). Still, I like it best of all the litters, and wish I could afford to have all the boxes stocked with it. Just don’t walk around in bare feet-- those pellets will make you holler.
Publix clumping scoopable cat litter. I love it! It is very fine (so it doesn’t turn to cement when wet) and the jug says Scented but it’s not at all a strong fragrance (I can’t even smell it!).
I like other clumping litters too (Cat’s Pride, various store brands other than Publix) but Publix is my favorite. Used to love Tidy Cats, too, when I could afford it.
If there is a Publix near you, I recommend trying it. Very reasonably priced, and a light color so it doesn’t make your floor look dirty.
You can buy litter boxes that look like furniture.
Up until recently, I had always used Tidy Cats, 24/7 odor control clumping to be specific. Then, a few months ago, kitty’s urine stopped clumping. It would just crumble apart when I tried to scoop it out and made a big mess.
So I took a chance and switched to Cat’s Pride clumping. As opposed to Tidy Cats, Cat’s Pride texture is more sand-like. And while it is certainly dustier than Tidy Cats, the urine clumping has now been resolved. So as long as it works, I’ll stay with Cat’s Pride.
Kitty is fine with anything as long as it’s deep enough, because he likes to dig halfway to China
I used Yesterdays News when I had ferrets. Those were small litter pans. I like Swheat Scoop. It’s doesn’t smell, clumps well, doesn’t track too badly.
So many litter choices.
I have tried a variety of litters. I have Sphynx so trying to find a litter that I am happy having tracked around in their little webbed feet was a must.

Currently using:
Tidy Cat Clumping- Breathe Easy: This one is my favourite by far. I can be very sensitive to perfumes and other smells and this one doesn’t bother my sinuses at all. It also has great odor control and clumps well. The terrible Sphynx twosome do track this litter around but not as severely as other.
Tidy Cat Clumping- Glade: This one has a pleasant smell, although stronger than the Breathe Easy. I will use this if I cannot find the one above.
Previously used:
World’s Best Cat Litter: Overall I liked it initially. I found that I was replacing it more than was recommended because it just could not control odors well enough for me. Also, the urine clumps were not strong and fell apart while scooping (which lead to the stronger odor). Also, the cats tracked it EVERYWHERE. Overall, this is a great option for most people but simply wasn’t perfect for us.
Non-medicated Chicken Crumbles/Pullet Starter: I know this one sounds odd but it is of similar consistency to World’s Best and other more ‘natural’ litters, still clumps pretty well, still has good odor control, and a fraction of the price. It is a bit dusty but for the price worked very well and I used it over World’s Best for quite awhile. The pieces are finer like WB and gets tracked around the house by the Sphynx. If you have a cat who urinates a lot (diabetic, kidney failure, etc) then this is not for you. I would by a 40-50 lb bag and that would last awhile.
Arm & Hammer Clumping: Overall I liked but found that I started having issues with it clumping. It was great for odors control. The fragrance was not very pleasant.
Swheat Scoop: Look at Chicken Crumble review but make it over twice the price and just not happy to deal with.
Tidy Cat Crystal: For the price…no thank you.
I’ve experimented with a lot of different types of litter. With 4 cats I can’t afford to spend alot. Fresh Step has been what all 4 cats like and even when I’m in the same room as the litter box I can’t smell it. To reduce tracking I buy the really large rubbermaid storage containers and cut out a hole in the lid(usually half the lid, leaving the lip that locks to the container. Cats jump up on the half of the lid then down into the litterbox. When they jump back up most of the litter falls off their paws before they jump off. I have bought some of the rough shelf liner stuff in the past and stuck it to the lid, but it makes it a pain in the butt to clean.
I have four indoor cats - tried (and liked)a particular Arm & HAmmer scoopable but they only seem to sell it out west. The stuff back here , scoop away, is terrible (in terms of smell and dust)
Tried Fresh Step, okay but dusty.
Also Blue diamond Black walnut pellets. Cats tracked them everywhere. Odor not bad at first but then very funky. Also, as it is brown, hard to tell the poops! And the urine did smell. But cheap!
Like (when I cna get it) Tidy Cats Pine & Cedar. Not dusty, and smells great. Doesn’t clump really well but adequately. I am also really liking Feline Pine, which is a little sandier, but almost no odor, cats seem to really like it, and it clumps okay.
The dust factor is huge as I have a cat with skin issues. It sucks to pour out a box and clouds of dust rise up.
Nicker, like the storage box, litter box idea! When somethign happens to my old girl (who misses the box anyway and does not need any more obstacles to getting to it) I am going to do that!
