yes the Chinook winds can cause huge variations of temperature within a 24 hour period … The Blackfoot people term this wind “Snow Eater”
but anywhere in the Great Plains, wind is present often to point of making life unbearable

I was shocked when I moved to North Dallas, just how windy it was all the time. And then I was embarrassed by my own lack of thought, because I’ve seen Oklahoma the musical:lol:
now Bluey surely you do not have wind problems in the panhandle LOL
just make sure if you have overhead doors on a barn that they have wind-locks and extra bracing designed for the wind loads otherwise you will be replacing the doors
An old Wyoming cowboy I grew with used to say this little rhyme about the wind in his home state:
The wind blew, the sh*t flew
Couldn’t see for a week or two.
Hey, we need all the help we can get here. Having said that with tongue in cheek, Idaho is still closed. Traffic has gotten horrendous here in the Boise area. Housing prices are crazy. And I have noticed that there is actual litter along the roadsides now. That was never a problem before. And the people moving here are rude, complaining about how “dead” the food scene is and they speed and honk.

Speaking of the wind, I actually just told my SO how when/if we move when I/we retire, I want a less-windy place. I actually get mad trying to throw hay and then wind blows it back in my face  Here we have maritime wind and maritime rain. I don’t really mind either but not both at the same time, and I don’t mind the wind except when I’m either trying to feed or trying to ride and the standards keep blowing over. My weather station clocked a blow at 89 mph at my place last year, same one that snapped a bunch of power poles and slammed a car door on my leg so hard I had a hematoma. So far the peak wind for 2020 has been 39 mph.
We do get the Chinook winds in Colorado as well, but not as often. When we do, the joke is always; “ugh, someone poked a hole in Wyoming”.
on the retirement side,
Colorado does tax Social Security as regular income (states that tax SS… Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia) …
Pension income is not taxed there (states that do tax pension income Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Vermont and West Virginia.)
Then don’t even look in the Magic Valley. I did a rescue dog transport leg last week and picked the Chihuahua up in Twin Falls and just about got knocked over by the wind. Here in Boise we don’t really have to deal with that constant, unrelenting wind. But is has gotten insanely expensive here.

The Cameron Peak fire burning through Estes Park is really bad. My niece in Boulder said you really can’t spend any time outside as it is really hard to breath due to all of the smoke. Everyone is hoping for snow soon. So maybe not Colorado after all. The annual fire threat is probably more than I want to contend with. Just like hurricanes along the east coast. I’ve enjoyed reading all of the responses though.
