Talk to me about your favourite saddles with these features

Custom WOlfgang Solo II.

I thought I would love it and turns out I hated it on my old horse. My very large thighs kept banging into the thigh blocks. Might be totally different on this horse though and certainly lots of them around used at a great price.

The saddle might have been out of balanced on your horse or didn’t fitted you at all with the block placement.

Those are custom saddles so the blocks can be positioned differently.

Yes thigh blocks come in a few different shapes and lengths, and if your thighs hit the block perhaps the seat was too small for you. (and of course that has to do with the length of your thigh… not necessarily their diameter.

I’ll also add that I LOVED a certain saddle on a previous horse, but when I had it fitted to this horse, I COULD NOT ride in it!!

Today’s update - tried a 2016 Paramount and planned to switch halfway through to the Antares for comparison but liked it so much I never made the switch. Sitting trot was easier, canter was a dream. Rising trot was actually more challenging in terms of keeping my hips open and upper body back. I had the same issue with a very deep saddle a few years ago and is a good reminder to keep working on my hip flexibility! Overall is a good fit for Caprice, just a wee bit narrow in front, but likely fixable by adjusting the flocking. If not, the tree has some adjustability as well.

So we have a new leader. I’m going to have a couple more rides in it, and so is my part boarder before we decide if the search is over. If a Custom or the Albion we’re waiting to trial come available this week will definitely give them a go. Have found a couple of Trilogy Amadeos but none close enough for easy trial. This Paramount actually has a similar feel to my beloved Trilogy Verago.

I have a picture on my DressageAddict Facebook and IG if anyone wants to have a look

Fingers crossed for you!

In terms of flat vs curvy I just finished the same saddle hunt. I ended up purchasing a Prestige X-Helen. It is forward balance with a narrow twist. Flattest they make and with a deep seat. The flap is standard, I believe 16". Mine is a 18" which I think is as large as they make them. Yet I still have room for my rather large butt! For more length of thigh the dual flap can have Velcro blocks (which mine does). The Helen also comes in a mono with a fixed block, it is a Helen K.

As others have said, the Trilogy Verago is also a good option. I tried a 18.5. It fit my flat back guy well. Great twist, but hit my pubic bone!

For new, the County Epiphany, would suit all of your wishes. I almost went that route…

A Schleese Heike Kemmer can check all of those boxes with custom options. Deep, locked-in seat and narrow twist are standard. All panel and flap configs available - and the super nice thing is that they can do a larger seat on a shorter panel to manage a short back.

OMG the Bull! :lol::lol::lol::congratulatory:

Oh, gosh, I totally goofed! :o:o:o

Here I thought I was riding in a Verago, which checks all your boxes, and when I went to clean it today I discovered it’s actually an Amadeo which has a more moderate depth and twist than the Verago, It still has the wide seat though, which is what I think makes it so comfortable to me.

I still love it, but it may not be anything like what you’re looking for.

Please accept my apologies and I’m still hoping you get out of the circles after the 3rd one

I hear the feel quite similar. There is a consignment Amadeo not far from me which I’m tempted to try. After a couple more rides I’m less in love with this Paramount as the twist is too wide for me. They have suggested trying a newer consignment model, as they have made some improvements in that area since 2016, when this one was made. I’m also trialling a used Albion SLK this week, which definitely ticks the “deep seat” box. The search continues!

They certainly look very similar if not identical, on their website photos
