TB colors?

Since Rabicano can’t be tested for, there’s no definitive proof it stops at the shoulders, but talk to the geneticists at UCD and they’ll pretty much say that’s what it does

I’d say these horses are probably as good “proof” as you’ll get that it stops at the shoulders

Doesnt second picture show white in the throatlach area?

That horse is also Splash, and either Sabino or Dominant White, or both, and given the roaning in the throatlatch area is connected to the white that is coming under his jaw, it’s related to that, which most likely makes it from Sabino

There ARE true Roans in the TB breed. Catch a Bird and his offspring have produced some true roans in Australia.

Nevertheless this horse here would be a Rabicano as the others said.

I have a bay Danzatore daughter that is rabicano. Her skunk tail isn’t as pronuced as the one in that pic, but its still pretty unmistakable. I’ll try to get some pics of her this week. She’s got some AMAZING dappling going on right now too. :love-struck:

Yes, but since it’s just the 1 line, and in Australia, for all intents and purposes it doesn’t exist

I have a rabicano that is not sabino, and the white goes all the way forward to the ears. It does not stop at the shoulders.

OP, I adore your girl! She’s so pretty!!!

I also have a TB mare with the same sort of gray hairs throughout her coat. She has just a couple of gray hairs in her main and her tail, as well, but doesn’t show the skunk tail expression. She’s a dark bay with just a nice round star - no other white on her.

Unfortunately, it’s tough to get a picture of the coat hairs unless I get up super close like you did. They almost completely disappear in her winter coat, but pop in her summer coat. Problem being, from a distance they sort of “melt” into her color and just create this “sheen” on her. It isn’t nearly as obvious as the example pictures posted by other COTHers. However, here’s the only picture I have of her that shows her “sheen” - and I can pic out the white flecks, but then again, I know what I’m looking for. Not sure if others can see it or not.

Please note - my poor mare was still underweight when this picture was taken. She’s fattened up and is doing much better now.

I thought for a while this was “roan” but have done some research and realize now that it’s probably a light rabicano expression.

What makes you say he’s not Sabino?
