Teach me about Jumpers - Kentucky 3day event

The 2 phase is the regular round and then the jump off.

Speed is a single class and who ever is fastest wins. I can’t remember if poles down count on the clock or instantly take you out of the running.

The Grand Prix qualifier is just that. To see if you’ll make it back under the lights later on. I believe clear rounds are what they are looking for here.

Personally I love watching jump offs, especially after there was a huge battle in the original round. It’s so cool to ‘make your bets’ so to speak to see who you want to root for.

This two phase doesn’t seem to be running like a regular round and then jump off in that the riders don’t stop going between the regular and jump off rounds–a bell sounds if the rider is over time/has a rail in the first part and they stop–but if they can keep going its up to the rider to decide to retire or keep going for the second part (seems a pretty even split based on whatever strategy the rider is going after).

Staying in the ring for your jump off is one of the usual formats used in Jumper classes. So is Power and Speed where the first half of the course is Power, meaning no poles down, if you are clear on the Power part you stay in the ring and the second part of the course is timed…

These and others are described in the rules under Section __ Table__, can not remember the details but the format to be used for each class is published with the entry form information and posted along with the course diagram on show day. Of course also in the rule book.

Yes. If the horse and rider are clear in the first phase, they continue immediately into the speed phase.

In the speed class, the fastest clear round is the winner.

In the Grand Prix qualifier and the Grand Prix, both classes should have a jump off after all the entries complete the first round.

From the list of starters I saw last week, it should be a very strong group there with many top competitors. Have fun!!

A 2 phase is not a P&S. In a P&S, you only continue to the second phase if clean. In a 2 phase, you continue on no matter what (exception: elimination).

They’re walking the course now for tonight’s 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier.

There are eight clear so far at the halfway mark, plus a few with just a couple of time faults. The time allowed is a little snug.

Kent withdrew from JO, as did several others. Disappointing as a spectator, but understandable if they’re saving for the Saturday class.
