Teams for the Paris Olympics

For those that subscribe to Peacock- there is a fantastic documentary available called “Hoof Dreams” that follows Tamie Smith, Julia Krajewski, & Lauren Billys in their lead up to Tokyo. I remember hearing about this when it was in production and super happy to see that Peacock has picked it up in the lead-up to Paris.

If you go to the app, select the Paris Olympics, go to all sports, & select equestrian, it’s the first link there.

Watch it!

I did just noodle thru Peacock to see what they have on the Olympics. I saw all the little icons, but I didn’t see one for equestrian. So then, I scrolled thru all the Olympic stuff, didn’t see anything about the gee gees. I will go back and do a more thorough look thru, but I didn’t see it. Since you say it is there, I believe you.

The first icon should say “all sports”. If you click on that, everything is in alphabetical order- just look for “equestrian”

I’m not a historian or anything, but I remember learning that the original reason to have show jumping last was to prove that the horses could still be sound enough after the cross country phase to come back out and perform the next day.

Changing that order seems like the opposite of good horsemanship to me.

XC last, makes sense at one day events, especially at the lower levels when the officials may pay extra attention to someone who has had a scary SJ, and be ready to pull them up early on XC .

At a multi day event, in my smurf opinion, it takes away from one of the key tests … how much can you ask of your horse on XC and still have the horse sound, fit, and able to leave the rails up the next day.

I found it. And it is wonderful! I knew about Julie and Mickey, but seeing it, and hearing about (her) Sam, so sad! And how terrific for her to win!

Stumbled upon this tonight. Very well done, we enjoyed every second of it.

Short format internationals are usually regarded as preparation for the long format - the classic three day event. There was huge excitement and vigorous discussion when FEI introduced CIC and CCI ratings for competition. Yes, historically the Show jumping after cross country was to test whether the horse had enough oomph left to jump fences that fall down after the rigorous effort of cross country ones the day before. However, one day shows are so much more convenient for everyone: they require less land, far fewer volunteers, less time and are cheaper.

at the lower levels, that is fine, but at the upper levels, I know they do it, but it means there is no second jog, and you don’t really know how the horses come out of it. I hate it when they do that. I know it is the way to go, but to me, it is laughable to say they care about the welfare of the horse.

It’s really incredible that she has had such success at the top on 3 different horses, in what seems to be a very small program without big sponsors. Talk about talent, determination and grit! I have a whole new level of respect for Julia after watching, and agree the documentary was really well done (minus the name…)

you know, I was very impressed with all of them. Tami had that weird fall on the flat, and she knew it was going to cost a fortune to go to the Olympics. She went to the Olympics and yet, didn’t get to ride. I am so glad Mai Baum won Kentucky last year. We all know how good he is. And two things that weren’t shown was her taking Wembly(?) to I don’t remember which one, Badminton or Burghley, came up hopping lame at the first jog! Imagine how much it costs to fly over and then that! And then with her horse, California(?) was injured at Luhmullen, and ended up pts. It is hard enough to keep up with the bigs over here, without knowing about the injury to Julia’s Sam. I didn’t think much, just, ‘oh another horse.’

100%!! They are all super impressive and I really felt for Lauren as well with the horse’s age and her mental health struggles, it’s great that she was so open about it

I’m gutted for Tamie not being able to stay in contention for a spot on the team with Lexus for this Olympics, their career together has been incredible but I would have loved see them check that final box before he retires.

The owners of Boyd Martin’s horse were on NBC Nightly News last night, albeit very briefly.

This link is to the whole episode, and they appeared in the last minute or so of it.

I found this on FB this morning. It made me think how lucky the eventers are for going first. They get to go first, getting there a week early. Do I remember from the World Championships in Tryon, that since the hurricane, they had to delay a day which set up major problems. The stalls weren’t vacated so the incoming Dressage horses couldn’t get in. Do I remember that or is it wrong? I can see where they wouldn’t have enough stalls to have all divisions there at the same time, but don’t the dressage and sj horses have a bit of a disadvantage by not getting to come in early, and ‘stretch their legs’?

Is there a listing somewhere of each horse competing with their breed also listed?

EventingNation had a breakdown of the field with breeds/number of each, but didn’t have the names alongside.

I’ve got a particular interest in TBs; they have one listed and I’m trying to double-check who it is!

The FEI start list should have that.

I am sure eventing nation will eventually come out with the info, but I quickly was copy-ing the names into the FEI database to see what breeds some where, but didn’t have time to do it all.

Doesn’t look like the start list is posted yet.

I don’t think they can post the start list till they all pass the vet.
