Tell me about pads (leather vs Pour in) especailly for showing

So can this wait until the next shoeing or should I call my farrier and ask him to come back out and switch to something else?

This x100.

How long has it been? There might not be enough foot to remove shoes and redo things just yet. But if you do need to wait at least a couple weeks, I just wouldn’t work her, or at least not any more than a walk. If things are ok at the walk, then walk, and see if things improve - maybe her movement is due to the new feeling, and as she gets used to it she’ll move better. But just a few times a week, not every day. That will let you more objectively evaluate how she feels, over feeling it every day and maybe not feeling minor changes. Take some video too of her at liberty in a round pen or ring and judge any changes.

That said, if she’s really just moving oddly and stilted, things need to change sooner rather than later. It’s not ideal, but if the farrier has to remove the shoes and redo things, he can get creative with nailing them back on.

She was just done last Thursday and isn’t due again until July 14th. She feels sound and doesn’t feel off or any different to me but my trainer just has commented that she is not moving as well as she does with just normal shoes. I guess what you call more knee action.
Thank you for your reply! I had not thought that her moving different could cause issues as well!

It’s not entirely clear if she’s moving incorrectly (short, stabby steps) or if she’s just got more knee action. If the latter, then it could just be from added weight on the feet. Some are more sensitive to changes than others. If the former, then she’s probably landing too much on the toe, and that’s a trimming and breakover problem. Or if really short and acting ouchy then that’s a soreness problem. The second two would need to be fixed.

I use leather pads for my sensitive guy and magic cushion under the pad keeps the hoof nice and healthy. I’ve used this combination year round for about 4 years.

No opinions on increasing sole depth, but good luck!

On the first few days she was short and with stabby steps, However over the past two days she feels normal to me and not short or stabby steps. But my trainer just says she is “moving like crap, don’t expect to place on the flat”.
