tell me about Plantation Starter Trials
I hope so!! We’re doing our big move up to Novice at the Jenny Camp HT at Shawan Downs this Sunday. If all goes well I’ll drop my entry in for Waredaca next week.

Look for the blue truck with the bright red 2 horse trailer and the cooler full of mini wine bottles. We’ll toast your successful trip down the down bank :D
Sounds like a great plan? MINI bottles? May I throw in a MEGA bottle into the mix?

I am white diesel Chevy pulling white Eby 2-horse with two bay horses, oh and short blonde hair, 25 lbs less than I last saw you, but two years older… bordering on the big six oh…

What are your plans, BFNE? Any outings on the horizon?
Young horse is too feral to expose to the public ;). He had almost 40 starts so a bit of race horse baggage that still needs to be unpacked. He doesn’t really steer well but a good jumper if I can get to the fence! Other boy I have entered at Waredaca and then Prelim at Plantation. He’s more than ready…I’m the hold up. Work is crazy so not really sure if I will make it. When you are working 70-80 hour weeks, it gets hard for me to get fit enough or really want to do anything other than have a relaxing ride.

good luck with your green horses! We do have a few nice starter trial in this area but we are a haul for you. I do recommend Plantation and Flora Lea for starter trials. Good xc that really improves the horses. Fair Hill is good too. DVCTA has a decent one at Carosel Park right over the boarder in Delaware. I’d put that xc on the stiff side just given the distractions on course–kids play ground etc (akin to Difficult Run in VA). But for me…I try and stay closed to home for schooling events. You could also do something like come to a new area and just school xc rather than just go to an event.

If you wanted to make a weekend of it you might consider coming a little farther south to us. Our War Horse series event for June is June 13-14, and it’s a great set up. Saturday is a schooling day, and you can get onto the XC course, school show jumping and play in the dressage rings. Sunday is the actual horse trial and BN is usually mid day as we run training down to an 18 inch green as grass division. Stabling of course, professionally designed courses in both SJ and XC and a portion of the proceeds goes to support a really good cause!

PM, I hear GREAT things about that series and would be there in a nanosecond if I had a bit more time! LOVE SP! Maybe I will just do that, and I do have a nice place to keep horses and stay while I am there, within minutes of the horse park.

Will look at the War Horse Schedule and think about getting there, perhaps not in June but later in the season when it may be less scorching in Southern Pines.

I am in NoVA and I think am doing Waredaca the 7th (I am not that excited about the bank you mention, Duckz, if it is the one I think it is, it caused problems at novice the last time I was there . . . )

Another option that weekend–does anyone have feedback on this facility http://www.cedarcreekstables.us/ ? Their HT is only $52.

It is a SOAR event. I did the Gordonsdale one last weekend and it was really nice and low key. Staunton is more of a drive for me than Waredaca, but Waredaca is always more of a drive than it should be (whether I choose beltway or 15, it’s always the wrong choice . . .)

Thanks!

I would love to go to Plantation but I wish they had an intro division. BN sounds to salty for us at this point (although stadium is our weak link) and it’s not really worth $90 to enter elementary with 18" jumps and a WT dressage test. It is annoying to have to drive 60 miles to Flora Lea instead of 4 to Plantation.

kcmel - how close is Burgundy Hollow? You can do mix and match there.

Kcmel – I wish Plantation did that 2’3" level, too. That’s definitely an important step between logs on the ground and BN. I think, in the past at least, the organizer felt it was just too much to do TWO additional courses per weekend. The way they run, they already are building six courses/event weekend (intermediate-18 inches). Even though the 18" course is pretty short, it’s still that many more fences to place, number, etc.
Doesn’t Fair Hill offer at 2’3" division at its unrecognized? That would be close to home.

Yes, they do and hopefully I can make the next FH. I did decide to go ahead and do the elementary at Plantation. Heck, my guy has only done 2 starter trials so the experience will definitely help.

One idea instead of having to build another course is maybe have some BN options with some of the easier BN jumps.

I did that at the jumper derby they had there. Just told Denis what I was doing (and got his ok) and mixed in some jumps from a different level. Obviously…I got a letter for the division I was in (so no ribbon) but was fine with it as it was a good school.

DVCTA at Carousel (on 6/21) has an Intro/ Elementary division that is a nice step up from Plantation.

I was considering inquiring about that. Thanks!

I think it depends on his mood. But would plan to do BN and just go around the ones you don’t want to do or pop over the elementary ones. Just make sure he knows ahead of time and you will just tak an E. But honestly the BN generally rides well.

or go cc schooling there on Monday after the event. I think that is the open school.
