Daughter is thinking of moving into this area and looking for recommendations on farrier, vet, dentist, hay feed and bedding and general horse activities in the area.
Lots of horses and horse activity options. Mostly foxhunting, dressage, eventing and hunter/jumper. Less western I think.
Get a copy of the Equiery http://equiery.com/ Their paper version is probably more useful than the website.
Very horsey. Chapman reining horses is out that way, for western, but yes, it’s primarily english.

It’s an incredibly horsey area, and I board a few miles south of Mt. Airy, in Damascus. What type of activities is she interested in? Local or recognized?

There’s a good local tack store in Mt. Airy, Stablemates: http://www.stablematesinc.com/
There is also a Tractor Supply and Southern States, for supplies and feed. The barn where I board, and my trainer’s barn, get feed from Farmer’s CoOp in Frederick:

It is a good area. Does she know exactly where she will be working and living? Lots of young adults seem to be moving into the Frederick area because there are a lot of technology jobs in the area.
Will daughter be boarding or have her horses at home. whats her discipline. Of note, there are 730 licensed boarding/riding facilities in the state of Maryland!
JenEM pretty much nailed it. Javier Donatelli is a great vet. The FCA (farmer’s co op) in Frederick is a good place for feed. Two minutes away is a Southern States.
It is a great place to live! Very horsey.
Sounds great, maybe I should move there too! Daughter and hubby are looking at a small property with a barn. She does hunters and will be caring for her own horses. Thanks all for the suggestions, I will forward them to her.
