Tell me about your EORTH experiences?

My horse developed both EOTRH and Cushings in his 22nd year (2022). Symptoms for EOTRH were hesitation to take the bit, and hesitation to spit out the bit. The EOTRH was diagnosed in late fall, he had 5 teeth extracted in early December. He did well with the surgery, recovered nicely. Bill was $1k. Earlier same year when summer solstice rolled around, he hadn’t yet shed all the way out - for the first time. Previous summer he was slick. This made me suspect Cushings. Yep, he’s now on 1 pergolide a day. This spring I’ll be body clipping him. But what has surprised me is that I’m now seeing more Cushings symptoms emerge: some muscle loss, some lethargy, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this year his blood work indicates an increased dosage.

That’s good to know. My guy is 23 this year so will keep an eye for Cushings symptoms

I’m reviving this asking for an update on the information. My horse (19 Years) has been diagnosed with EORTH. His gums are not inflamed but. he does have Hypercementosis. The vet is recommending we just keep an eye on him. His only real symptom is excessive drooling only when eating his feed often resulting with as much as an inch and a half of drool in his feed bucket. This occurs all year and is not clover related. UC Davis says drooling is a one of the signs of EORTH. I also notice he like to rub his mouth on hard objects. I saw they recommended cleaning the horse’s teeth and saw elsewhere using a weak (1%) Chlorhexidine solution was used to to brush the teeth. Anyone tried that and have results. Also is Equident still showing promise in holding this at bay.

Oh man, my vet mentioned very early signs of hypercementosis on my gelding, and I see him drooling sometimes even if he isn’t eating or drinking :worried:

I will be starting my horse on the protocol recommended in the above lecture. I’ll post here how it goes.
