I still have mine, although they have been sitting on the shelf for many years since I started using half chaps.
I always admired those. But a stout leather belt with the nameplates of all your favorite horses was more practical. You could rep every horse you ever loved all in the same item of apparel.
Ooo I have another……side zip breeches that were so baggy you could fit 2 people in there!
Funny question-do you remember a horse showing called Throw Me Roses and I believe rider was Susie Boyle? Young Limerick pored over her Corinthians and noticed that that horse WON a lot!!
I’ll go….
I am old enough to remember when Brother Sam was Ian Millar’s favorite horse and the Candy Man saddles were awesome and not at all creepy.
Sadly I don’t….what years was that?
It would have been 1985/86ish
Remember Bruce Duchessois’s mare Kim Song? Bruce was from my general area
OMG, are you ME? If it weren’t for the Western background, I’d worry. I’ve bought up a bunch of those older model TS breeches, too. Any time I see a pair in good shape in the $25 or less neighborhood. I only had knockoffs the first time around so it’s one part living out my youthful dreams, one part their more generous cut (I can easily fit a pair of tights or Back On Track long underwear under there, too), and one part their amazing stain resistant properties.
In a bit of a nod to those days, I bought a leather belt from Central KY Tack and Leather and had the local shoe repair guy re-tack some of my old nameplates onto it (the plate from my Stylist that I popped off before shipping it to its next owner and one off old mare’s bridle… which I injured myself fairly decently removing ).
We may be talking about different TS here I’m on the hunt for Trophy Hunters which, even used, are still well above $100 a pair. So perhaps there’s a different gag-worthy old school TS breech that isn’t made any more
It still is! I don’t have a phone…
That’s before my time….I was still a gymnast then!
And do not forget we schooled in jeans and half chaps!
Apparently, I’m older than I thought since I still think of TS Trophy Hunters as the new TS. I think @HipNo34 is talking about Royal or Supreme Hunters.
I have no idea what particular model they are but they’re side zips and the old school, baby puke green. I pick them up on eBay and Poshmark.
I’ve gotten to such a point with the side zips that no matter what I’m wearing, I often find myself automatically reaching to the side to unzip
Here’s one. I just barely remember Dancer’s Image being DQ’d in the Kentucky Derby. It was a hot topic in my house as we lived 2 towns over from the owner.
I remember watching Riva Ridge, Sham, Secretariat, and Ruffian. Ruffian kind of ruined horse racing for me
Thankfully I missed watching that race. I remember the day though. Never wanted to watch racing much after that happened.
I showed a 3yo there once. Had to warm up on the other side of the treeline from JPL. Fire engines were driving back and forth with what sounded like jake brakes. I just remember my instructor yelling “sit back, sit back” as the colt leaped through the air LOL.
