I’m really not sure if that’s true?
I could be wrong, but I’ve never found anything reliable that said they are the same food. I’ll have to compare next time I pick up a bag.
We also used TOTW for years and then the dogs started vomiting and would not eat it. We then switched to Victors for a few years (grain free). However, recently as one dog has started seizures out of the blue we are transitioning them to Acana. Expensive, yes, as we have two large dogs but I’d rather pay that then other issues.
Well I can tell you TOW was a family owned business that wouldn’t sell to big box stores for ten years before selling to the Diamond Co a couple years back…First off I’m really surprised your vet didn’t try to push Hills science diet on you since they are the only ones who carry it (There so called prescription line)…My opinion is that she mentioned pedigree because they do have a line that is comparable to science diet for about 1/2 the price…The biggest difference in my opinion is how and where they get their proteins and other nutrients for their product…im not going into that part of it cause it would take awhile but look it up and you will see what I’m talking about. Also did you know that a majority of the dog foods made come from the same place…They say each company will give them their recipe and it’s made for them…If it’s followed is way above my pay grade lol. This company also owns diamond natural and TOW now so I’m not sure how that affected the TOW product now but it was a great product up until the sell…The only reason they keep the line in my opinion was the name itself …sorry if I ran on but all I’m saying is find a food that works for your dog that isn’t full of fillers like you get at box stores and supermarkets cause it is crap…The whole Grain Free argument can be argued from both sides so that’s up to you and what works for your pet…
The 4health product is the same brand but they have different lines such as a grain free one.
I have 2 of my 2 critters on ToTW. The cat gets the green bag, Canyon River I think, along with a can of wet in the evening. Little dog gets either Small Breed or Pacific Stream. They both look wonderful and are super active, healthy animals. Big dog gets Diamond Lamb and Rice. He has a very sensitive tummy and ToTW makes him sick.
It is my understanding that Kirkland (Costco), Diamond and ToTW are all the same company.
I’m glad this popped back up. I checked the ingredients on both brands, they are NOT the same.
They are both owned by Diamond. I had numerous issues with ToW, none with 4Health.
Two of my dogs would not eat TOTW. I feed them Chewy’s Journey grain free dog food now and the love it. Better rated and alot cheaper
Thank you! I just checked the per pound price and it’s only a little higher than 4Health. I’m giving it a try. The Journey food gets 5 stars from Dog Food Adviser. Chewy’s has a promotion right now for 50% off the first bag. It’s the perfect time to try it.
That stuff is seriously amazing and I feel like it’s a secrete no one knows about for some reason. Haha. Make sure to sign up for auto ship if you haven’t ordered yet. It gets you another 5% off than you can cancel it after if you want.
Done. Thanks again.
Just read this article the other day. Some interesting information about our pet foods.

Did you hear about the recent Clean Label Project study into pet foods? The organization screened more than 900 dog and cat foods and treats for over 130 toxins “including heavy metals, BPA, pesticides, and other contaminants with links to cancer and other health conditions in both humans and animals.”

What is a BT? Bedlington Terrier? Belgian Tervuren? Border Terrier? Boston Terrier? Bull Terrier?
Thanks everyone so much who mentioned Chewy’s American Journey food - my pitbull mix has been turning up her nose at her Natural Balance lately so I’ve been looking for something else to try. Between the 50% off first bag, autoship discount, and 20% discount for setting up autoship, I am getting a 24-lb bag for $17.74 including shipping! Even if she doesn’t like it, for $18 it’s well worth a try. So much less expensive too!
LOVE the 50% off from Chewy. Got a special offer a while back and have only used it once, so I can try two more brands w/50% off.
And yet, none of their claims are peer reviewed and they refuse to submit data to back up their claims. If you look at their highly recommended foods, it’s garbage dry food like Beneful and Kibbles and Bits.

Kevin Hicks, the CEO of Ellipse Analytics, the Colorado laboratory that conducted the testing, has previously come under scrutiny for questionable practices when he was the CEO of BeverageGrades, another product labeling company.
This rating company is comparable to Natural News and Mercola. It’s a load of hoey.
reported.
Taste of the Wild is a great quality better than average dog food. If your Vet is trying to sway you to Purina, trust me, it’s bevause she probably carries that brand. My vet has an album in his office of dog food brands rated from best to worst. And trust me, Purina is at the bottom wrung of the ladder. It is most definitely not a “step up” from TOTW and if I were you I’d steer clear of this Vet.
We have Boxers and we did a lot of research on health and nutrition due to the high prevalence of cancer in the breed. We tried Acana / Orijen -top of the line dog food - but it gave our dogs runny poo. Still it’s a high quality dog food. Most vets are going to steer people away from a raw diet simply because the average person isn’t going to know how to give their dog a well rounded diet when feeding raw. They still need balanced nutrition and it takes a lot of research to do it properly.
My dogs love Taste of the Wild Venison & Bison formula. I tried other flavors but they like this one the best. I have five dogs - two boxers, a chihuahua, a Boston terrier and a Boston chi mix. I also feed them Country Vet Naturals grain free that I get from my vet. The small dogs get Blue Wilderness toy breed - the kibble is the smallest I’ve seen in dogs foods and my chi and small dogs go Gaga over it.
But you want to know what brand my dogs really go nuts over? Merrick dog food. I can have a bag of unopened Taste of the Wild and a bag of Merrick grain Free real Texas beef & sweet potato recipe on the floor and my dogs will try to tear open the bag of Merrick dog food. It looks great, smells great and they devour it. It’s essentially a gourmet dog food and extremely healthy.
Get the Higher protein version for growing and adult dogs, get the lower protein for senior dogs (it’s harder for them to digest higher protein dog foods). I get my little dogs the Merrick grain free real lamb & sweet potato lil’ bites (smaller kibble) and they love it. It’s a high quality food on dog advisor but TOTW is also a great food. We feed all of the aforementioned dog foods so our dogs don’t get bored with the same food.
I doubt most vets sell Purina. And lots and lot and lots of top competition dogs eat Purina. So, there is a lot of data to suggest that it’s not a bad food. I don’t feed it but I know a lot of top show and field dogs that are fed Purina. Usually from the Pro Plan line.
I don’t really care what foods people feed, but I think you are wrong to suggest that vets back Purina because there is some kind of profit to be made.
And I think you mean bottom rung of the ladder, not wrung.
