I am so glad you had such a wonderful success! So sorry I had to scratch my horse - he has been having some discipline problems of late (NEVER had any in the two years I’ve owned him, suddenly lost his brakes right when I signed him up for the clinic :() and I wouldn’t have wanted to cause your wreck in an otherwise spotless weekend. Hope you can find time to do another one!
I attended the clinic on Saturday and even without a horse, I had a great time. Thank you, thank you TVH staff for putting on a very informative program. Everyone was very supportive of each other and even I, the AARP age re-rider, was thinking “Hey, I could do this!”.
Now, with Riding to Hounds in America and the vocabulary list of hunting terms in hand, I will pull out my whiteboard and proceed with teaching Foxhunting 101 to my future field hunters.
PS-even DH had a good time, and he spent most of the time snoozing in the car.
PPS-TVH’s main goal is FUN in and out of the field, I believe.
I think you should ask seasoned hunters what they wish newbies knew…
Like: don’t ride up on my horse.
Like: they ALL want to be up front
Like: be quiet so we can hear the hounds!

My group learned all this… now my field needs to learn it too.
I’ve had a great response from the participants in our clinic. I think we might be able to do another one later in the fall for the folks who couldn’t make this one.
Oh, that’s great news! I received a flier in the mail for this one, so I hope I’ll get notification if there is another. I sure hope my mare is sound by then!
Oh, that sounds so useful and fun! Wish I had been there.
I’m off to get that book you all keep mentioning…should answer three thousand of my newbie questions.
