How easily did you resell a Duett? USA

Update: Thank you everyone! I dropped the saddle off at UPS so now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed I find something that feels better to me.

I have a Duett on trial, ends tomorrow, and it fits my horse well. I’m not in love with it, however, and have been scouring around online for other options after people in another post gave me some good recommendations.

A new Duett Fidelio is 3.6k which is a lot to pay for a saddle you don’t love IMHO. I cannot find the same saddle online used in his tree size (34). They have Velcro blocks, dual flap, deep seat, and designed for horses with short backs. It’s a well made saddle.

I found a saddle that I really want to try, it’s short enough for him and should work on a wider horse and it’s used and much more wallet friendly. And now I’m debating whether to buy the Duett and resell if the other saddle does work out or just send the Duett back. Without the Duett I cannot ride my horse.

But if you can’t resell them for close to what you paid then I think I’m better off just shipping it back….unless I can’t find anything I like that also ticks ALL of his checkboxes.

Has anyone recently tried selling a Duett with success?

Ahhhhhh

I do not know about the used Duett market specifically, but I think it is safe to say that no saddle you buy will ever sell used for close to what you paid for it new. That is just not how the used market works.

If I am going to pay close to new price, I might as well pay the new price and get some support from the company I am buying it from in case someone goes wrong.

I would not plan on buying any brand new saddle, with plans on immediately reselling it if you find a better match.

Send the Duett back. Find his (and your!) perfect match.

Most of the used Duett Fidelios I’ve found range from 800 to 2,000 (USD, CAD, and GBP). There is a Facebook group for used Duetts, if you’re interested in joining the page to look at the resale value of (any) Duett.

I’ve wanted a Duett Fidelio, but I’ve heard they’re not very comfortable. My current dressage saddle fits my mare, and the seat is pure SQUISH.

Send it back

I’d rather pay 4.6k for a saddle I love. Or, find the saddle you and Horse love and see if you can find it used.

You can usually re-sell a bought-used saddle for much closer to what you paid, especially if the turnaround is fairly quick. Go with this one and see what happens.

Can you ride bareback at all? If not fully bb, there are some nice thick BB pads that make the experience much more comfy for both of you. I wish I could remember the brand I have, it’s like a SUPER thick half pad (but bigger, obviously) thick wool, it’s amazing.

Even if all you can do is walk, there’s a lot of incredible work you can do at the walk that a lot of people don’t do becaues it’s “boring” it’s only boring if you’re not diving into a lot of the intricacies of walk work

My experience is all dressage saddles are tough to sell  The fit is more precise and almost everyone wants a trial.

I would plan on losing a minimum of 25% of the purchase price if you’re able to sell it yourself. I’ve personally had better luck selling dressage saddles through consignment because they’re set up to handle trials and can address some fitting questions.

If you go through consignment, the fees will be at least 25%, so you’ll be out 40-50% of the new purchase price by the time you resell.

It’s a very expensive “rental” if you expect to resell in a short timeframe. Buying something “good enough” used is going to be much better because you can likely sell it for for roughly the same price so you’re only out the commission.

I’m not brave enough to ride him bareback lol. A steady eddy mid-late teens - twentyish horse, sure. Him? No. His trainer rides him bareback though. 🫡

Just don’t. If you are not in love and already planning on selling it, try the other saddle. Worst case you spend some money in shipping, but confirm your decision.

It is better to give your horse sometime off than getting the wrong saddle because you feel rushed
