That other equestrian sport: modern pentathlon!

Today’s schedule:

Swimming (200m freestyle, not great quality swimming) – 11.00-11.35 EST

Fencing Bonus Round (not important, boring) – 13.00 - 13.50 EST (1pm -1.50 pm)

Riding (yes, watch this!) – 14.30 - 15.40 EST (2.30p - 4.40p)

Combined (running/shooting, so exciting!!) – 17.00 - 17.20 EST (5p - 5.20pm)

Please join me in cheering madly for Canada. I’m American, but Canada is my pentathlon homeland.

Go Canada!!

I hope the horses are good to them and vice versa!

Dear Lord, when is the show jumping final round going to be? Don’t tell me they are going simultaneously!

And Jumping gets out just in time to make the pentathlon jumping broadcast. But ‘technical maintenance’ means the competition is delayed until 3:36 EDT at least???

I think that’s 2.36 ET, 15.36 Rio time.

She did well to sit that!!

Sadly egypt not so lucky…

The quality of riding so far has been…wanting. No wonder the horses are dirty stopping.

How many times are they allowed to remount? Surely after multiple refusals/falls they should have to retire?

There’s a reason they’re at the low end of the standings.

I thought both did well, to me it’s like the horses aren’t seeing the second part of the related distance until they go to take off…could be shadows or something?

Oh my god the girl on this gray horse isn’t even going into two-point. Just sitting straight up over the jump. Horse ain’t putting up with that.

The Turkish girl rarely gets around. Goes into ring and retires. She cannot ride. Everyone complains about this. I have no idea why her riding certification hasn’t been revoked.

Oh, the Guatamalan girl was decent.

Isabel from Guatemala has a very strong riding background. Her twin sister competed in eventing at the Pan Ams last summer. Both girls have showjumped to a high level.

They’re awesome people, too.

Whoops, thanks for correcting me. I have it up now, just in time to see a lady in a red coat come off a grey horse into a fence. She’s hurting! Moya from Cuba.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Moya (Cuban rider) also has no idea what she’s doing up there. Looked like a bad fall, yikes.

Her riding with her wrist through the whip loop was kind of a giveaway!

Is there another event they compete in or is this the final part?

The run/ shoot comes after the riding.
