My pleasure!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Random question from a lurker.

When judging a hunter breeding class, especially one for young horses (I’m thinking foals and yearlings), do manners come into consideration?

I’m assuming difficulty standing still or playing while being jogged are fine, my question relates more to stuff like rearing repeatedly, kicking out, etc. Or a stud colt “letting it all hang out” for the duration of the class.

You know, I think it varies from judge to judge, but certainly the younger ones get more of a pass than the older one. I have seen a horse go BYH (at Upperville!) after getting loose multiple times. Usually, as long as it stands still long enough for the judge to get a good look, and enough of a trot to evaluate movement, other shenanigans will be overlooked. Not saying I agree, but that seems to be the case. Today, in the Upperville classes, a LOT of them got wound up for whatever reasons. Some placed, some didn’t, but I don’t think that made the difference.

Baby horses are unpredictable. You can train all you want at home and they can be foot perfect. But you get to a show and anything or everything can set them off. It is certainly no reflection on their temperaments, or training, in the young ones. Young intact colts get stimulated by the environment and usually haven’t yet been taught when display is appropriate and when not. Not a deal breaker, and they will learn as they get older.

Now, if it comes down to two equal individuals, then the better behaved one should certainly have the advantage.

I was there today (Sunday) for the Irish stuff with Tully Cross Farm. It wasy first time there and I love the rings! The 2 year old filly we brought, Tully Cross Discrete (It’s the Luck of the Irish x Cappah Lass), was so good and got second in the purebred class. Several others we brought (owned by other people) did well too.

Who was the big 3yo chestnut stallion in the Purebred Irish 1-3 class? He placed first and was GORGEOUS.

I enjoyed the tailgate the Irish Draught people put on

There were a lot of very nice Irish Draughts there today. I enjoyed getting to do the riding judging.

‘Consent to Fly HPF’, who we bred, was 2nd in the Upperville YJC 6yos.

He is Contigo m (Cassini I) x Contender.

Well, that’s something to be excited about! Congrats NE! HOpe you were able to be there to see his round.

You were great! We were all drooling over the big chestnut-- wowza what a gallop!

Where can I find pics from the Hunter Breeding

Anyone know who the photographer was in the Irish ring? She was there for the entire Irish division, but I have no clue who she was?

That was Windfield Night Hawk by Harkaway Lionhawk out of Penmerryl’s Sunday Blues. This colt’s third dam was dam of 4* eventer Amazing Odyssey.
