What? I think petsmart may be making that up.
Anyway, go to any fish store that sells live plants (out of the tank, not the ones in the little sealed packages like petco/petsmart sells), and there’s a good chance you will at least end up with a few malaysian trumpet snails (or hundreds, since they reproduce like crazy).
There are some places where you can’t get certain types of snails, but I don’t think there’s a blanket ban on freshwater snails anywhere (though in order to sell them or import them you may need a special permit, which petsmart may not want to bother with).\
eta… apprently in some places there is a blanket ban - maine is one (at least, you can’t bring them in across state lines without some kind of permit, I don’t know if once you have a permit you can sell them). Didn’t see anything about NY though.
