I haven’t been able to test them in really bitter cold temps because I bought them after I suffered through the winter from hell. But I’ve been out shoveling snow a few times this year and so far they’ve been great.
I love these gloves, so far the best winter gloves I have had. If my hands are warm when I put them on, they never get cold while doing chores at the barn.
I have the older ones, not waterproof, and they are ok for moderately cold temps, not -10(I assume F).
Was -15C here last night and I had to give up lunging my horse as my fingers were freezing in the gloves.
And forget riding in them, I find them too bulky, can’t close my fingers properly around the reins.
I like them for barn chores though, if doing things where I move my hands a lot.
I will have to check out this newer version though, my search for warm gloves I can ride in continues.
I bought these last year and was VERY disappointed in them. They don’t keep my hands warm at 20F. They were recommended by the woman at my feed store where I bought them. I’m not sure how waterproof they are either, can’t remember if I’ve gotten them really wet or just an occasional drip.
I did notice this year they seem to be loosening up a bit. Before, I felt like I couldn’t really bend my hands in them. I’m doing chores in them with hand warmers or glove liners inside them as needed. I wouldn’t try riding in them.
We had them on the booth at congress. (25.00 a pair, 20 if you bought two or more.) I had a lady skeptical of the waterproofing so we filled up a cup and let her stick her hand in. 2-3 minutes later, the outside of the glove was wet, but her hands were dry, and she bought the gloves.
I’ve had a pair for two years, and they did their job when we had below zero cold snaps in Virginia doing barn chores. I really appreciated the grippy palm for cleaning stalls because there is nothing worse than slippery gloves on a fork handle. I found for riding, to use rubber reins and not really do “finesse” requiring work. Hacking, trot sets, basic flatting; they are pretty bulky for anything if you need to adjust your reins a lot.
I like the heritage ones
These last me about a year or two before the waterproofness dies. I almost always have a brand new pair waiting in storage (buy on sale) and this year I went to the stash and NONE… need to hit up a good sale again
I have some and I love them as well! The trick is (and it says so on the label…) that they have to be warm when you put them on or they won’t get warm. I stick a pair of hot hands in them on my way to the barn and it’s peachy. The waterproof part is what sold me because there is literally nothing worse trying to undo a wet gate latches with frozen fingers.
Well, I just ordered two pair, based on the Op’s rousing testimony.
One pair for DH, who just last week asked me to find a pair of waterproof gloves that actually are:)
The other pair for me, in the hopes of keeping the tips of my fingers from turning painfully white while the rest of me is near-sweating.
They should be here Friday or Monday. DH is excited to try them in the water when he is washing out feed pans at night.
I ordered them thru Stateline Tack @ $26/pr. They are cheaper than any of the POS DH has bought at Tractor Supply so, if they only last one or two Tennessee winters, he will still be happy:)
I just want something to keep my fingertips from going numb and let’s my fingers be nimble:)
