The cold gave us a stray feral cat

We’re rural. I hope there’s a program here now. There wasn’t a few years ago but I hope that was just because of Covid fallout.

I am rural too and there is an organization here linked in with a spay neuter clinic. They don’t advertise much but luckily I found out about it since I keep getting dumpees here.

I found an organization! Sent them an email.

Crossing fingers that you won’t have a repeat of the endless kitten summer.

You’re a peach @moonlitoaksranch. :+1:

We moved him/her from the workshop to the garage. Still good temp control in the garage. Our barn kitties were a little reluctant to stay in there overnight because of the visitor. So, feral kitty has their own spot with less distractions. There was pouting. It’s a three story cage with the top completely covered. But you can just barely see kitty’s back end behind the box. Just checked again and the wet food was appreciated.

Got an email back from the feral spay/neuter folks. They wanted to know if I would keep kitty. I said yes.

Oh, no spraying. No stink. I’m thinking female. I really hope spay can be scheduled soon. No more kittens!

Our son and I sit a little distance away and softly blink while talking to kitty. He/she blinked back several times. Good sign?

Still very scared but here’s a picture.

No word back from the rescue. I’m going to call our vet and a different rescue for ideas. This cat needs fixing. Are winter kittens common? I know they can breed year round but it gets cold up here. Ugh. I really hope it isn’t female.

A tiny bit more settled but still hisses when I add food or water (using long sleeves and a glove).

The cat is our neighbor’s barn cat. He’s feral but fed and cared for. Just wandered when it was cold or run off by another of her barn cats. He was really angry when one of our dogs slipped into the garage. Just seeing the dog pissed him off and scared the dog half to death. It was dangerous to reach in the cage after that so I’m glad the neighbor piped up. I should’ve asked first, but he was cold and I assumed. He does appear to be in good condition so I suppose I should’ve asked sooner. She was happy that he wasn’t coyote bait. We’ll see if he comes back.

Maybe do a sneak neuter a la @threewishes. ( Neutering a cat that isn’t technically yours)
But glad he’s got a home. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hahaha! No. We don’t have money for that. Vet prices are high enough for our own pets.

That was epic, btw.

Late coming back to this party, but Yes, I’ve read the Slow Blink is Cat for I trust you, might even like you
FWIW:
I had a semi-resident feral black kitty I was sure was female because - like you said - no stink, no spray. I named her Black Betty :smirk:
Then “she” got injured (DX: saddle block :disappointed:) & Emergency vet told me Betty was an intact male.

ETA:
Oops
Read your update :open_mouth:
Sh*t neighbor :frowning:
Ask around, some shelters will do (or have access to) cheap or even free neuter/spay services.
OR…
If he shows up again, get him neutered (pending access to above Cheap Fix :smirk:).
:poop:Neighbor never noticed when he was a guest at your place & you could return him once the betadine wears off :smiling_imp:

He is little so age could be a factor in low stink. He hasn’t come back. I may have offended him. Or, his search for a better offer didn’t work out to his liking. He got trapped! lol.

My very-good cat friend told me that cats blinking at you are saying that they ‘love you.’ I eventually got a beautiful torti-point Siamese who would blink at me VERY deliberately. I named her “Sapphire Kisses” or “Kisses” for short.

I got a cat on Valentine’s day like this! My husband had forgotten to get me anything and while I was doing chores something meowed at me that wasn’t my regular barn cat. Wild as all get out but moved right in. Got her spayed and figured she’d vanish but now she sleeps in the tack room. Great hunter, and actually ended up average friendly. We assume someone dumped her.

It certainly was. :joy:
