And I’m the daily dumb this morning. I left the 50’ soaker hose on for 13 hours overnight, instead of the 3 hours I’d planned for last evening.
The city is already doing a 45-day billing cycle for the next two months because they’re a month behind, so I’m sure my bill will probably be double the usual amount.
It’s not too bad around here yet. Plus my hay guy loves me.

I was farmsitting a neighbor’s pasture-kept horses & left the hose on (filling the tank) overnight.
Next morning, no water 
I thought I’d burned out their well 
Turned out to be just a blown fuse.

I was dumb today 
I was riding early in the morning and my glasses slipped off my face and landed in the arena footing. There was another horse coming up behind me and I prayed it didn’t step on my glasses. Thankfully, it didn’t, and I was able to have a trainer giving a lesson at my barn pick them up and hand them to me. I was still scared I would have to replace them, though!
DH and I have left the water on for hours topping of the koi pond many times. Oncevwe remembered while out to eat and called a neighbor to turn it off. We now buy the cheap timers from Lowes and set it for 15, 30 or 45 minutes so we can’t forget it. One would be perfect for filling a trough even if you want to go back later to turn off the hydrant. At least if you forget you won’t run the well dry, create a mud pit or waste water.
My mother once killed all of her expensive fish because she made this mistake. The colder water from the hose went to the bottom and pushed all the existing water out. She was so upset 
I took the day off today. It was originally because I had a horse show this weekend, but because of the change in board price at the new place I elected not to go. Instead, I pulled my small horse trailer home to wash and pull the mats. I brought it back to the barn, and trainer man was there. He asked why I left with the trailer and no horses. I explained why.
He looked confused. But the floor is aluminum? He asks. Yes, I say, but aluminum floors still corrode and can have integrity issues.
Turns out, in the 22 years he has had his aluminum horse trailer, he has never pulled the mats. He also has never repacked the bearings, checked the brakes, or replaced the brake pads. I knew there was a reason why I would not put my horse on his trailer for love nor money. It was a spidey sense sort of thing. Good god.
Oh my.
That level of incompetence requires commitment.
What on earth is the “Dan Ryan”?
What is “Back of the Yards”?
It’s a segment of highway in Chicago. Namely, 94W. Each segment has a different name so that when you hear the traffic report you know where the issues are.
Dan Ryan, Bishop Ford, Jane Byrne, Borman, tri state, Stevenson, Eisenhower etc. All are referencing different segments of highways.
I have had that fear many times, and my glasses have had similar narrow escapes.
Can you wear one of those elastic bands with loops that slip onto your glasses and fit snugly around your head under your helmet?
Or one of the longer cords that hangs around your neck?
Name of a particular area in south Chicago.
These are all good ideas, however my glasses hinges are loose and they come off of my face on a regular basis! I’m getting them ‘tuned up’ soon!
Ages ago when I was taking jumping lessons I would take my glasses off and my trainer would hold them while I jumped. They probably weren’t in great shape either.

My landlord told me last night he had cleaned the fish pond. So I went to look at it. He had drained it allright but had left 1 ft of water in one end and an inch in the other. All these expensive fish in barely no water all day and it was hot and of course some of them are dying. I did what I could but he’s going to hear it from me tomorrow. grrrr dumb ass
