The Dog Tricks Thread

Well, Maizy and I started working with the hula hoop over easter! She got over her fear of it quite quickly with a target and some really smelly treats.

I’ve decided to also start having her use a backpack for walks / hikes - she can carry her own stuff! Very excited to have a fit, well trained dog!

ETA: One thing I’m having trouble with is attaching the trick to a word. She gets hand signals right away, but words don’t tend to stick as well. Any ideas?

With a motivated dog it is so much fun to teach tricks. My foster pit bull knows wave, foot (she gives me her left paw) other foot (right paw), high 5 with either, roll over, catch (catch a treat), for general training she knows sit, down with implied stay, leave it, come, wait for her food, wait at the gates/door until I release her.

With our family dog who was so easy to train, he high 5s with left, catch, bang your dead and if he is really feeling dead he ends up on his back with all 4 legs in the air (that gets extra treats so he loves doing this). He is an older dog and at 96 lbs the more athletic tricks are a bit beyond him.
